     Brecksville's last fire truck was a 1980 FTI with a Spartan cab, It was painted Grey(medium) over Red (deep like ALF red). It had a 1250 GPM Waterous pump and 500 Gal. tank, and a 8V71 Detroit Diesel with an Allison Automatic transmission. The truck was picked up by the Tomah VAMC Fire Dept. around the first of May in 1994 and after serving Tomah for a few years, it went to Fort Meade VAMC Fire Dept. in South Dakota where it is still in service. The truck came to Brecksville in the summer of 1981, it had been a Demo for FTI and had been used by a municipal department in Michigan while FTI repaired their truck. The cost to the VA in 1981 was $88,900.00. Prior to that engine, a 1966 or '67 International R-185 FTI was in service. It had a 750 GPM pump with a 500 gallon water tank and a RD450 inline six cylinder with a non-syncro 5 speed. They also had various vans that were used as patient transport vehicles for in house EMS calls and to do the building checks.
