Bradford Disclaimer: I read these lyrics in
Star's journal and suddenly became inspired to write a Rei and
Yuuichirou fanfic. They have been living in America for four
years so that Rei might pursue her dream to become a well
known singer. And she is. Rei Hino is a very popular singer.
She is 23 and it is September 11th of 2001. Sailor Moon is ©
Naoko Takeuchi. This story is dedicated to the true heroes of
9-11. May their memory always live on. The song, Little Did
She Know (She'd Kissed a Hero) is © Kristy Jackson.

He found some
socks
She chose his tie
And when he left for work that morning he was just another guy
Going to work
He'd have to fly
Out to a meeting in L.A. so she had kissed him twice goodbye
Yuuichirou smiled and packed his suitcase. Rei smiled as well.
She kissed her husband lovingly."How long will you be
gone?"
"Oh about a week or so, I'd figure. Not too long
love." He smiled and wrapped his arms around his wife.
"I'll call you the first chance I get." Rei smiled
and kissed him again. Yuuichirou was not nearly as shaggy as
he used to be. He had cut his bangs and begun to take better
care of his hair which was shoulder length now. His blue eyes
sparkled and he smiled."I'll hurry back my love. I
promise."
"Stay safe."
"Always." He hugged her tightly once more and took
his bag downstairs. She followed him and stood at the door
waving while he loaded up the car."I love you Rei!"
He shouted.
"I love you, too Yuuichirou!" He opened the driver
side door and took his place behind the wheel. He drove off to
the airport, happy. Life was going so well for both of them.
Rei hadn't had to take up the role of Sailor Mars for two or
three years now. Although the phone bill was getting larger
with her constant calls to Usagi. He had to smile at that
thought. Rei and Usagi were like sisters. Often times he had
found himself jealous of Usagi because he couldn't be that
close to Rei. But things had long since changed. He smiled
again and remembered their wedding day. Usagi had stolen a
large piece of cake before the reception. She swore up and
down that she hadn't taken the piece, but everyone knew that
she really had. He chuckled and pulled into the airport. He
parked his car and took his bag into the airport. The security
checked his baggage and he smiled and waited patiently. Before
long he was sitting in his seat aboard the airplane.
Little did she know she'd kissed a hero
Though he'd always been one in her eyes
But when faced with certain death
He'd said a prayer and took a breath
And led an army of true angels in the sky
Little did she know she'd kissed a hero
Though he'd always been an angel in her eyes
Putting others first, it’s true
That’s what heroes always do
Now he doesn't need a pair of wings to fly
Yuuichirou leaned his head back against his seat and smiled.
"Oh Rei, aishiteru." He closed his eyes and then
snapped them back open when he heard a commotion. His eyes
narrowed when he saw the Arabic men with the box cutters take
over the plane. He'd watched a stewardess killed before the
passengers.
"What's going on?!" Some one shouted as the body of
the captain was dragged to the back of the plane. "Who's
flying the plane?!" Another shouted. Yuuichirou kept his
eyes on the men that had taken over the plane. He hard
something about DC and the World Trade Center. Then he heard
the dark laughter coming from the men. Yuuichirou suddenly
came to the realization that no one was going to get out of
this alive. He turned around and locked eyes with the male
passenger behind him. Yuuichirou saw the same thoughts flicker
though the man's eyes and nodded.
"We can't let this plane make it to it's
destination." Yuuichirou whispered. The man nodded and so
did his buddy. He saw a few others nod as well and they began
the plan, knowing that death would soon be there.
Once the plans were settled Yuuichirou picked up his cell
phone to make one final call.
The phone had rung
His voice was calm
Before he could tell her anything she knew something was wrong
'I love you so '
The last words he'd said
She said 'I love you too'
And then the phone went dead
Rei picked up the phone. She smiled when she heard
Yuuichirou's voice on the other end on the line. She was
relieved. Rei had seen the news, she knew what was going on
and she thanked God that Yuuichirou was still alive. And then
her heart froze in her chest when she heard the tone of his
voice. He was calm but he told her what had happened. Tears
began to make their way down Rei's face as she shook her head
in disbelief.
"No one is going to make it out of this alive. So me and
a few of the guys are going to try and keep this plane from
reaching it's target." Rei nodded numbly. She understood
what he was saying. Her heart was still frozen in her chest.
She couldn't breath, couldn't think."I love you so much
Rei Hino." He spoke softly into the phone.
"I love you too, Yuuichirou." She managed to get out
as the tears continued to run down her face. Then the phone
went dead. Rei hit the off button and fell slowly to her
knees, letting out a scream of utter despair."YUUICHIROU!"
She placed her hands, palm down on the ground in front of her
and her body shook as she cried, and cried, and cried.
Yuuichirou brought his head up and dropped the phone. He
looked at the other men and they nodded. The group of them got
up as one and attacked the hijackers. Yuuichirou fought hard
to make his way to the cockpit. He snarled as a knife drew its
self along his arm. He felt the sticky blood ran down his arm
but it wouldn't stop him. Several of the passengers fell. He
struggled harder. One of them had to make it to the cockpit
and at the very least bring the plane down. He gasped in pain
and looked down to see one of the box cutters sticking out of
his gut. He looked up into the maddened Arab's face. He fell
over and lay in the aisle. He felt the plane angle downward
and heard the panic in the voices of the hijackers. He felt a
warmth surround him and smiled as he knew that their attempt
to stop the plane from reaching it's destination had worked.
He felt the life drain out of him and said softly, barely
above a whisper. "Aishiteru Hino Rei."
Now he doesn't need a pair of wings to fly
Rei heard the report come across the TV. Yuuichirou's plane
had gone down somewhere in Pennsylvania. They had succeeded.
"You did it Yuuichirou, You're more of a hero than I
could ever be." She picked up the phone and began to make
the phone calls. She knew he was dead, but that wasn't the
end. She also knew he was safer and happier where he was now.
"Hello?" A small voice spoke from the other end.
"Hello Usagi-chan. This is Rei-chan." Rei carefully
kept control of her voice. "Have you seen the news?"
"Rei-chan, yes. I'm so glad that you and Yuuichirou are
both all right."
"Not both of us." Rei said softly. "Yuuichirou
was on that last plane." She heard a gasp on the other
end of the line.
"Oh Rei-chan I'm so sorry." Then she heard Usagi
explain to Mamoru what she had just been told.
"He's a hero Usagi, a true hero. No super powers like you
and I. He didn't give a second thought to bringing the plane
down. They just did it. He said that the hijackers had some
serious plans for that plane that would have killed those on
board anyway. " Rei began to cry again.
"Rei-chan," Mamoru spoke softly as he came on the
phone. "As soon as they lift the aircraft ban the girls
and I will fly over. If you need anything, anything at all.
Please, give us a call. You can even call us collect."
"Arigato Mamoru-san." Rei hung up the phone, curled
up in a ball on the floor of her living room and cried until
she fell asleep.
