I sighed and lifted my gaze to the sky.
Hotaru was at school today, as for Haruka and
Michiru, well they were occupied. I leaned back
against the cherry blossom tree and gazed up
through the leaves at the pattern they made with
the sky and sun as the gentle breeze made them
dance. I had been the guardian of time forever.
Now I was given a chance to have a life on earth.
That was only because I was needed as a Sailor
Soldier, but now times were quiet once again. The
Silence had been adverted. Who knew that the
little blond girl was our princess and the
Messiah. She will be a strong Queen in the
future, but then that is what this world needs. I
rolled over to continue to read my book, quite
times around the mansion were rare, but when I
did get time to myself if I didn't keep busy I
often started to think. Not that thinking is bad
all of the time. I just wish that I had someone,
everyone else had someone. I mean Haruka and
Michiru had each other, Usagi had Mamoru, Luna
had Artemis… I shook my head and stood up. I
dusted the dirt off of my lilac dress and sighed.
I picked up my book and made my way back to the
mansion. I stepped into
the dining area and Haruka and Michiru were
having breakfast. "Pancakes, Setsuna?"
Michiru asked as she flipped another over in the
pan. She smiled. Haruka leaned back her chair on
two legs.
"Yeah, join us for
breakfast Setsuna." I smiled and sat down at
the table. They were good friends, the best
anyone could hope for. It was a bit odd that we
were eating breakfast at 11am. But it had become
normal with Haruka and Michiru.
"Haruka, you had better
set that chair down on all four legs. If you
don't, you will be making your own
breakfast." I heard Michiru's soft voice
rise to sounding annoyed. Haruka laughed and set
the chair right.
"Wouldn't want to have to
do that Michiru-love." I laughed. They were
always picking on each other. "Oh, Setsuna,
Michiru and I are going down town to go grocery
shopping and such. Would you like to join
us?" I shrugged, I had nothing better to do.
But in the mood I was in I really didn't want to
constantly be reminded that I was alone by their
affections towards one another.
"No, Thank you though.
I've got a few things I need to do."
"Are you sure
Setsuna?" Michiru asked as she brought a
plateful of pancakes to the table. Haruka reached
out with her fork to snatch up a few and yelped
as Michiru brought her spatula down on Haruka's
hand. "You can wait a few minutes."
"Awww Michiru, but I'm
STARVED!" Haruka groaned. Michiru laughed. I
chuckled a little.
"Yes, I'm sure, you and
Haruka go have fun together." Haruka raised
her eyebrows mischeviously.
"Fun eh?" I laughed.
"Didn't you two get enough
of that this morning?" I shot back at both
of them. They both turned the deepest shades of
red I had ever seen. I laughed and grabbed a few
of the pancakes off the pile and put butter on
them. I was already pouring syrup over the
pancakes when both of my friends recovered.
"Setsuna!"
"Well if you're gonna make
jokes like that expect a comeback." I said
and smiled, beginning to eat my pancakes.
"Better start on your pancakes or they'll
get cold." I murmered and shoved another
forkful of pancake into my mouth. They both
regained their composure and started to eat.I offered to clean up the dishes so Haruka and Michiru took off after they were finished eating. Haruka didn't want to go shopping as usual and was actually hoping I'd get her out of it. Sometimes I wonder if Haruka should have been reborn male. I shall have to take this issue up with my boss later.
I finished the dishes and looked around the house for something to do, something to clean, something to keep me occupied. Oh, that's right, I had throughly cleaned the house yesterday. I sighed and glanced at the clock, 12:00pm the soft green digits read. Okay, now to find something to do to get my mind off of this being alone thing...darn, there I go again. Go...hey that's it...I should go out! But wait, what if Haruka and Michiru see me? Well I can just tell them I'm busy doing the stuff I said I was busy doing. Yeah, that's it!
I went around the house and made sure everything was locked up, grabbed my keys from the peg by the door and stepped outside into the nice fall air. I smiled, closed and locked the door and looked around. Okay, I'm outside, the house is locked up...now then where to go? I glanced up and down the street when the realization came to me. I had never gone out by myself for fun. I swallowed hard. That's right, Haruka and Michiru had always been with me or I was on some mission. Wait, this is a mission. A mission of the upmost importance. This is Operation Manhunt. I smirked and walked down the street. Now I was on a mission, a mission to find the perfect man to rid me of this loneliness.
Let's see here, now then where to go. Wait, Usagi-chan always goes to the arcade to meet people and have fun. Okay then, let's go! Let's...wait it's just me...right...I headed down the street and toward the general direction of the arcade. Once there I entered the arcade and there it was. Standing in it's black and pink and multi colored glory. Dance Dance Revolution 5th
mix. I smirked and glanced around me. Okay...no one I know is here. I had always had a soft spot for the game. I walked up to the counter and paid for some tokens and then went to play. I stepped up onto the platform. Slipped the tokens into the machine and heard the satisfying sound of the machine starting. I selected my player, the non-stop mix, the songs I was to play and started. I heard the crowd gather but paid no attention to them as I nailed every arrow. The game finished and I won. I smirked and turned around to find Haruka and Michiru right behind me.
"Busy eh?"
"I uh, erm, uh...." I turned red and Haruka laughed. Michiru smirked. "I was uh...training, yes that's it, training..." I could tell that neither of them believed me.
"Training...right...that's why you have the game stashed away in the attic?" Haruka smirked. She had me there...
"You know about that?"
Haruka laughed, "Let me show you how it's really done. Michi?" Michiru went and got some tokens and then stepped up onto the platform with Haruka. I stood back and watched as they too began on the hardest level. They started out like I did and then...they switched pads in
mid-step. My eyes widened as they began their intricate patterns. The crowd grew larger and I felt smaller. I turned around to leave when I ran right into someone. I lowered my head.
"I ah, I'm sorry sir I..." I looked up and stopped speaking. The man before me was incredibly handsome. He had the deepest blue eyes I had ever seen. He was well built but not overly muscular. He had long, silky, blonde hair and wore a black tee-shirt and a pair of jeans. He smiled.
"You were really good there, don't let your friends get you down. Wanna have a try again? I'll team up with you."
My heart found it's way to my throat and I couldn't speak. All I could do was nod. Haruka and Michiru stepped down and I stepped up on the platform with him. "My name is Kaori." He said softly. My heart skipped a beat.
"I'm Setsuna." I managed to stammer out. He tied his hair back in a pony tail and glanced over at me.
"Ready?" I nodded and he dropped the tokens into the machine. It started up again and we choose the hardest level with the hardest songs and then we started. I allowed him to lead me through several patterns and switches that I had no idea I could do. Being the guardian of time does have it's advantages though. He took my hand and twirled me to the last button and held me there as we finished. I was panting and so was he but I looked at the screen, to my amazement we had hit every single arrow.
"You're good." I said amazed, he smiled.
"So are you Miss Setsuna." He still held me as I suddenly remembered where we were. I turned red when I heard the hoots and hollars coming from Haruka's general direction. He merely chuckled.
