Volume 1 starts out with the male lead (AH JING) dreaming about making the perfect shot in basketball when he is rudely awakened by his mother to get ready for school. He is one of four boys, with the oldest almost ready to get married and the youngest still in elementary school. He and his father are always in disagreement. On a chance encounter, where he rescued her from a harrasser on the train, (AH JING) met (HOU LAW CHI). Although they are in the same class, (HOU LAW CHI) is actually 2 years older than (AH JING) because she got left back due to medical problems. This manga is mostly about the sport of basketball. The male character likes this sport very much, but his high school team is not up to shape. A new coach arrives and offers the male character the position of the team leader. He accepts and the team is off to a rocky start.
(AH JING) and (HOU LAW CHI) start to become friends when (AH JING) joins the basketball team and (HOU LAW CHI) is a personal friend of the new coach. Of course, they fall in love, but due to (HOU LAW CHI)'s weak heart, she has to stop going to school.
Personal Thoughts:
BOYFRIEND
Okay, that's really all I know of the plot. How it ends, I don't know...
I picked out this manga in the first place because it had the same mangaka as Mars. Turns out that this is one of Souryo's earlier works and it's just not as appealing as Mars. I do like this manga because of the love story although I haven't read through the 10 volumes.
The lead male character looked majorly weird in the first two volumes of this manga, because his forehead was super high. But after I got used to it,
the mangaka changed it and it looks much better. The family conflict and the intuitiveness of the lead female charcter is also interesting. But to tell you the truth this manga bored the crap out of me. The plot moved too slow and wasn't deep enough, this being one of Souryo's early works. I enjoyed MARS more.
If you have spare money, this might be a nice manga to get but otherwise... bleh...
