Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou
KareKano - His and Her Circumstances

Arima and Miyawaza As you can tell from the title, this is yet another relationship based anime. Miyawaza Yukino is the model student of her high school freshman class. Smart, humble, graceful, kind, and very willing to help. None of the classmates know that she is only acting though...

Arima trying to hold Miyawaza back She is in reality a person who is very hungry for praise and attention. This has been her carefully calculated plan since elementary school. All this changes when she enters high school and the introduction of Arima Suchiro. Yukino sees him as a rival in everyway and once she managed to beaten him on a test, she expected him to be devasted, but instead, Arima congratulated her with a bright genuine smile. Then afterwards, Arima confesses his feelings to Yukino and as we hear from her bragging to her two younger sisters, she turned him down gladly. But then, on one unsuspecting day when Arima appears on her doorstep and Yukino greets him in sweats and a goofy grin to boot, Arima hence finds out her model student mask is a fake. Arima then proceeds to blackmail Yukino into doing his student official paperwork! Friendship develop while the two stay after school to complete the work, but Yukino eventually has enough and is hurt that she's being used. She announces to Arima that she no longer cares if Arima tells the whole school her secret or not and runs out into the hallway. Seeing she was upset, Arima chases after her. After they crash and Arima sees that Yukino has tears in her eyes and she's shouting out her case, he apologizes.

After that incident, the two really do become friends, and Yukino starts feeling for Arima but is hesitant to be the initiative until Arima tells her that he's still waiting for her answer. After some very silly antics of Yukino trying to express her feelings, she's finally able to do so at a student officer meeting by catching Arima's dangling hand behind the desk. Both of them blush red beet, and captions come on to say "And that's how we started".

Pushing Asaba to get better clothes Of course there are much more characters to this anime, and after episode 4, we start meeting them. Asaba is another good looking fellow in school who despises Yukino for keeping Arima from joining team with him to shepard the little lambs, aka female students, in the school. Poke, Poke... Eventually Yukino and Asaba make peace and Asaba becomes the weird lightbulb busy body. Due to all the attention that Yukino recieves from both Asaba and Arima, Yukino's class join forces to ostrasize her with the long hair beauty Maho as the lead. Then, Arima's previous junior high school friends show up and even though one of them, Tsubasa, hates Yukino's guts because Tsubasa had set her eyes on Arima since junior high, the rest, Aya, Rika, and Sakura all make fast friends with Yukino.

ATTACK! Other plots include how Tsubasa, a cute little girl rivals with Miyawaza for Arima, although Arima is pretty set on Miyawaza. But, at last an understanding is reached and then Tsubasa is faced with her father's remarriage and a new step brother, Kazuma, who at first thought Tsubasa was in elementary school. Then there a new student comes, Tonami who is back to take revenge against Sakura. Also, at Aya, the talented writer and Aya, the talented seamstress both wish to put on a play at the school festival starring Miyawaza, Tsubasa and Maho. Unfortunately, the series ends before we get to see what the play is about besides robots and future.

My Bias Opinion-

The two younger Miyawaza sisters I think this series has its ups and downs. The up parts being that the story really captivates you and lead you to want to know what happens nezt. That being the up part, the down part is that the series summarizes what happened in previous epsiodes too much. It went so far as to devoting two episodes just to recap. This is extremely fustrating when you want to see what happened to the rivalry between the new characters of Maho, Asaba, Tsubasa, and Tonami. Otherwise this series has a lot of symbolism and it incorporates drawings from the manga as well. I guess it's to cut back on drawimg and save some $$ ^_^ .

The manga is still currently running where everyone is in their senior year and they need to decide their futures... If you're interested in knowing about the manga go to: UsagiPikachu's Karekano manga review (UsagiSakura 10/10/03)
