Magic Knight Rayearth
Magic Knight Rayearth is a magic girl manga writen by CLAMP and relived as an anime. The story line is, as typical of a CLAMP story,
much more complex than it seems at first. With things and situations turning out to be the exact opposite of almost every
fact that gets laid down in the start, the story can leave the viewer feeling confused and shocked, but nevertheless very satisfied.
Three 14-year-old eight graders on field trips to the Tokyo Tower named, Shidou Hikaru, Ryuuzaki Umi, and Hououji Fuu
are suddenly transported to another world. When they arrive, they land on a big whale that transports them to meet
the Master Mage Clef. Clef tells them that they are now in the land of Cefiro, where will determines everything. The three girls were summoned to be Magic Knghts and Clef awakens their magical abilities within them.
The world of Cefiro is in chaos. Princess Emeraude-hime the pillar of Cefiro, has been captured by the priest Zagato.
A pillar is one who prays constantly for the well being of the land. And without her prayers that hold the world together and in peace, Cefiro has become plagued
by many monsters and demons. Cefiro will eventually and literally fall apart without her. By the force of her will, Emeraude had summoned the
Lengendary Magic Knights. Now, in order to save Cefiro and return home, the Magic Knights must fulfill their destiny and survive many tests of strength, courage, and compassion
in order to save the Priestess. But is this the whole story right here? What is the reason for Zagato to kidnap the Priestess Emeraude? Will the Magic Knights ever return home?
As the girls journey through Cefiro, first to obtain their weapon material and then to get their Spirit Guardian, their armor grows and matures. They battle with Zagato minions but nearly all of them except for Inoue and Alcionne all gave up on Zagato's side and gave up their fight. Also, the girls meet Ferio, a green haired punk with a gaint sword who comes and goes a few times. Fuu has feelings towards the guy. The Clef is imprisioned by his previous apprentice, Alcionne, and uses Mokona's little red jewel on his forhead to communicate. The goal of the Magic Knight is to seek out their Guardians, one is beneath the water, one on a mountain floating in the air and the last is on in a volcano. There, one of the three girls is tested by the sleeping spirit on her resolve, attitude, and compassion. If they past, then the spirit will acknowledge her as his master. Hikaru has the power of fire magic, Fuu is wind and healing magic, and Umi is water.
Spoilers:
Once the three girls got their Guardians, they set out to find Zagato in order to free the princess. They kill him. But then they are surprised when Princess Emeraude rushes at them in rage. The princess's child-like body then matures to a grown woman's and she uses her own Guardian to battle the Magic Knights. They are confused, but then they hear the Princess's voice asking them to kill her, that she called them to this world for the purpose of killing her. The Magic Knights of cause can't follow this order. The voice explained that she wants to be reunited with her loved one Zagato. That it was all her fault that Cefiro was in this condition because she couldn't concentrate her prayers anymore. So, the Magic Knights combined their Machine Gods into one and stabbed the Princess. Emeraude smiled while the three girls are transported back to Tokyo Tower, weeping and totally incredulous to what happened.
My Bias Opinions:
I saw like the first 10 episodes and then like always, I sought out the internet to find out what happened. Although I like really any Clamp story, since it always has some twisted plot, this one doesn't twist stuff so much. The drawings are cute, but there are a lot of SD drawings. Mokona is mad cute too. As the three strangers became friends with each other, we see that Hikaru is the earnest, naive one, Fuu is the wise, intelligent one and Umi is a little arrogant, distant one. They complement each other pretty good. I think the three girls had the idea that their mission was noble and when they realized what they were supposed to do, this conflicted with their morals and caused them too much pain. The ending shocked me as I read it online... I really wish I can see it though...
In Magic Knight Rayearth 2, the three are summoned back to Cefiro in an attempt to stop three other countries from invading and destroying Cefiro. Because, Cefiro is without a Pillar, it's slowly breaking apart. New characters appear, but hey, since I really didn't see that series, I can't really tell you what happened, right?
