United States (CV-58)

The United States class was the first American aircraft carrier class to be designed after World War II. Had she been completed, her sole puropse would have been to launch bombers armed with nuclear weapons. It was decided, however, that such a ship would not be need, and was cancelled four days after construction commenced. Four sister ships were planned but never assigned a hull number, and were never laid down.
