Powerful Posters May 4 - June 4

'Powerful Posters' features some outstanding examples of Australian poster art from the community-based RedPlanet Screenprint and Design Studio in Melbourne. Produced over the last 20 years, the posters cover a myriad of social and political issues facing society towards the end of the twentieth century, including nuclear testing, AIDS, unemployment, Aboriginal land rights, discrimination and immigration. Humorous, raw, and sometimes provocative, these vibrant issue-based posters highlight the power of screen printing as a medium for social and artistic expression and suggest a 'gallery of the streets'. The exhibition is organised by RedPlanet Screenprint and Design Studio, toured by National Exhibitions Touring Support (NETS) Victoria.

About the Exhibitions

The Library Gallery features a range of exhibitions throughout the teaching year, that provide an educative function, supplementing and interacting with existing educational programs in Art and Design.

Students are provided with an opportunity to enhance their learning experience by viewing exhibitions, attending educational programs associated with exhibitions, participating in the installation of exhibitions, and exhibiting their own work in curated shows. Exhibitions are selected for their relevance to the educational program and current art debate.

The program aims to provide relevance to the community through selected exhibitions of work by regional artists or artists who have worked in the area, as well as artwork which reflects themes of interest, importance or relevance to the region.
