      George Thompson, a World War II Veteran was drafted into the US Army in 1945 at 18 years of age. He first served at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation as Cadre Leader ( Private First Class ) .

- Infantry trained at Camp Robinson, Arkansas, part of 82nd Infantry Regiment. Shipped to La Harve, France aboard the Victory Ship Williams and went across France to Erlangen, Germany; then to Freising, Germany for Constabulary Training.
- Trooper of the Third Army, 2nd Regiment, 42nd Constabulary Squadron, Troop B, US      
Zone , Germany.
- Served as Patrol Commander, Color Guard and Supply Sgt. in Bavaria, operating out Freising, Wasserburg, Aichach, Dachau, Mucheon ( Munich ) & Garmich.
- Graduated from 2nd. Constabulary Regiment Non-Commission Officers School, Freising,
Germany in early 1946.
-Attended the Nurenberg Tribunal Trails and guarded Nazi S.S. Troopers at Dachau Concentration Camp in 1946.
-Awarded Expert Infantry Badge, World War III Victory Medal, Occupation of Germany Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, European Theater Medal ( ETO ), Unit Meritorious Service Award and Cold War Medal.
 
     George Thompson left Freising in January 1947 via Frankfort to Bremerhaven, Germany for shipment to the United States aboard the U. S. Army Transport Ship Admiral Rodman spending 10 rough days at sea and passing the White Cliffs of Dover in the English Channel, and arrived in New York
February 1947.
     He received his Honorable Discharged February 1947 and enlisted in the Army of the United States Reserves for 3 years.
