The Chatham South Lions Club held its Charter Program and installation of Officers on Saturday, January 28, 1978 at the Best Western Motel, Savannah, Ga. The Port City Lions Club was the sponsoring club. Ralph Snow was the President of Port City at the time and David Ferrell was assigned as Guiding Lion. Initially, the idea was to form a Lions Club that would meet for breakfast, instead of evenings. However, after a final vote of the original twenty-seven charter members, it was determined to meet on Thursday nights instead. This meeting night was eventually changed to the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
The charter night committee was made up of the following members: Charles Dove,Jack Harris, Edwin Nuscher, Sr., Melvin Wolensky and Jim Perks
