Overall

Lets see: non-payment of SH, no sick pay, no national holidays (not
even for the J-Staff!), illegal insurance policies, visa scams, arbitrary drug
testing, no bonuses, accomodation scams, amateur/unqualified people
trying to make professional tools, unqualified people in positions of
management, little to no training, an encouraged environment of
secrecy - including some of those in trusted positions of management,
health and safety has never been an issue...the list could go on and
on and on and on.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

- Nova informs all employees they are to vaccate Nova's apartments
upon termination. The truth is that Nova must give you 6 months
written notice and an acceptable reason for you to vacate the
premises before you need to move. Changing jobs is not an acceptable
reason. Nova is not allowed to enter your apartment without
permission. If they go into your apartment without your consent,
then you can report them to the police for breaking and entering.

- Nova does not tell employees how to claim unemployment insurance.
In my branch I saw nothing on the procedure for claiming the
insurance. Teachers can demand their "rishokuhyou" be delivered to
them within 24 hours or they will go to the Labor Standards Office.
(And if you threaten them with this, make sure you follow through).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Thousands of foreign instructors work for Nova.
The average stay is around 8 to 10 months. Recently, more and more
instructors have been leaving because of deteriorating working
conditions. Some of the conditions are:

No sick pay.
No public holidays.
Cramped, unhealthy workplaces.
Backbreaking, cheap plastic chairs.
A simply terrible in-house textbook.
Government investigation into possible criminal activities.
Cheating on health and pension payments.
Overcharging on accommodation.
No real training.
No altrnative material to be used.
A recent campaign to drive down salaries by encouraging reduction in
hours.
A company which is continually being taken to court.

12: No paid public holidays.
13: A punitive fining system.
14: Forced to work in glass cubicles.
15: Little or no support for being sexually harrassed.
16: Change in contracts overnight.
17: Overcharging for accommodation.
18: No first aid boxes in school.
19: Illegal health insurance offered as primary health insurance.
20: Recently: student complainsts up and more teachers leaving.
