Marbury vs. Madison was one of the most important cases in early US. John Marshall was sent a bill to give commission on to Marbury, who as Secretary of State. In all the confusion Marshall forgot to send out the bill. Marbury decided to sue, but Jefferson was already president and he refused the bill to give Marbury his commission. Madison refused to come to court, but even so Madison and Jefferson won the case and Marbury never got his commission or became Chief Justice.
The first marine hospital was built in Boston, Massachusetts.
April 11- Jefferson bought the Louisiana Territory from the French for a total of 15,000,000 dollars. 2,100,000 km were bought. The territory included present day Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Kansas. This area was later explored by Lewis and Clark.
