  • March 27- The last battle of the Creek Wars was at Horseshoe Bend in Alabama, with a victory by Andrew Jackson.


  • April 15- Do to the unpopularity of the Embargo and Non-Intercourse acts, it is repealed.


  • July 5- Major General Jacob Brown and Brigadier General Winfield Scott lead an American victory at the battle of Chippewa.


  • July 22- The Treaty of Greenville is signed, make peace with the Wyandot, Seneca, Delaware, Shawnee, and Miami Indians.


  • August 9- The Treaty of Fort Jackson is signed and the Creek Indians cede their land to the US.


  • August 24- The British take Washington D.C. and reek havoc by burning the White House, the Capitol, and other buildings.


  • August 27- President Madison returns to what is left of Washington D.C.


  • September 13-14- The British in an attempt to take Baltimore, attack Fort McHenry from sea, but fail.  During this battle Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star Spangled Banner."


  • October 14- To replace the burnt Library of Congress, Congress buys Thomas Jefferson's personal library of some 7,000 books.


  • December 24- The Treaty of Ghent is signed.
