January 7- The second National Bank of the United States is opened in Philadelphia.
March 4- James Monroe is inaugurated president.
September 27- Four million acres of Indian land located in northwest Ohio is passed on to the US by a treaty.
November- The First Seminole War begins when the Seminole Indians raid the border of Georgia and Florida. US troops are sent to defend the area and follow the Seminole into Spanish Florida.
December 10- Mississippi is accepted into the union as a slave state, making it the 20th state.
December 26- Andrew Jackson is but in command of fighting the Seminole Indians.
