April 4- President Monroe signs a bill issuing the American Flag to have thirteen red and white strips and a blue area with a star for each state in the union.
April 7- General Jackson takes St. Marks, Florida and captures a Scottish trader named Alexander Arbuthnot and a English trader named Robert Ambrister. Both men are court marshaled for helping the Seminoles.
October 19- General Andrew Jackson negotiates with the Chickasaw and agrees to pay them 7 million dollars for their land between the Mississippi River and Tennessee River. This becomes known as the "Jackson Purchase."
December 3- Illinois joins the union as a free state, making it the 21th state.
