June-Tripoli declares war on the US.
The US had been paying the north state of Tripoli for trade rights, since 1784. They demanded more money and the US refused. From 1801 to 1825 the Tripoli government had been capturing our ships and using them. In one raid Lt. Decatuer and his men managed to get aboard "The Philadelphia," which had been captured, and burned it before Tripoli could use it. The "war" ended in 1805 when Captain Eaton led 500 men across the desert from Alexandria and captured the town of Domah.
