Tue. 10/21/03: Week 2 post-accutane

I definitely am stressing less on my acne and more on my hair now. Get this: I didn't wash my hair for two full weeks. That's right, 14 days! I was so horrified by the last time I took a shower and a bunch of hair came out, so, I avoided washing my hair for as long as I can. If I didn't have to wash it yesterday, I don't think I would have. Anyway, even though, it was 2 full weeks, my hair was not gross at all! I used to wash my hair every single morning. If I go even one full day (24 hours) without washing it, it'd become so flat and oily. Now, I didn't wash it for 2 full weeks...and it still isn't as oily as compared to one day without washing my hair during pre-accutane days! Just goes to see how accutane can really zap out the oil.

Yesterday, while washing my hair, a bunch of hair fell out again. Man, it was so scary...I could actually feel the hair sliding down my back and hitting my leg. I looked down and I would see a clump. When I stepped out of the shower, I totally expected to see a bald spot or something; luckily, that didn't happen.

A part of me tried to reason that it was just a buildup of 2 weeks' hair. I mean, I haven't combed my hair in two weeks (I'm serious), so there can definitely be buildup. But still...I have no past to compare this to. I have NEVER gone 2 weeks without washing my hair...not even when I was young with perfect skin and hair. So, how am I supposed to know how much hair should be lost in 2 weeks? Yet, the amount just seems unnatural.

Ok, relax and breathe...everything will be alright.

Now my skin: I continue to use Klaron nightly. I try to use it in the morning as well now, but I usually can't, because it leaves behind this white paste on my face when it dries. I can't go out looking like I forgot to wipe toothpaste foam off my face. So, I usually use it only at night. Klaron is so gentle; it doesn't seem to do a thing! That's why I want to increase it to twice a day. At night, I use it like lotion...just put it all over the face, minus the nose.

I wonder if my derm will prescribe me something stronger on my next visit in 2 weeks. I like Klaron, because it's so gentle. Yet, that is also it's con, it doesn't seem to do anything, because it is so gentle.

any more side effects? I think I am getting a very tiny bit of oil back. When I run a finger on my nose, I do see a shiny film of oil on my finger, but definitely not oily like pre-accutane. I have gotten so used to having a normal face that I just feel a bit sad that my oil might all come back in a few months. But I would have it all back if it also means I will get all my hair back. My eyes are not as dry and red. They actually feel normal. I don't need to apply Cetaphil on my face anymore. It isn't irritatingly dry and flaky anymore. Occassionally, I do need to apply some lotion on my body. Lately, I notice very dry skin on my chest area, but they can be taken cared of easily by Cetaphil Lotion. I'm still using Cetaphil cleanser to wash my face and Nioxin to wash my hair. I am still using Aquaphor on my lips, but they are definitely not as needy anymore, meaning my lips can go a longer period of time without Aquaphor.

My hair has definitely shown me that acne isn't the worse thing in the world and it definitely puts acne in perspective for me. I mean, I still think acne sucks, but hair loss SUCKS MORE!!
