PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION III: OSCE Remedial 1999/2000

 

1.      Patient found unconscious at the side of the road. Perform CPR. After completed CPR maneuver, mention about setting IV line and stop bleeding. What drug can be used via IV line in this case?

 

2.      A 65 y/o man was diagnosed to have bronchial Ca with poorly differential cell, complicated by pleural effusion, lymph nodes and liver metastases. How would you break the news and counsel the patient?

 

3.      Peak Flow Meter and Inhaler. Demonstrate how to use the inhaler.

 

4.      Demonstrate how to do Hess test. Interpretation. What disease involved?

 

5.      Perform a memory test in a patient and give possible diagnosis. (Patient has impaired recent memory) Immediate- digit span; recent- memorize 5 items; remote- i/c no.

 

6.      A newborn becomes choked and cyanosed after 1st attempt of breast-feeding. An X-ray was given, give 2 abnormal findings and possible diagnosis. (Tracheo-esophageal fistula?)

 

7.      Postnatal caRd was given with immunization record. Comment about the card with patient has not taken for sometime. How to give the immunization and what is the contraindication of immunization?

 

8.      A young mother was eager to wean her child. Counsel her (remember to ask the baby’s age)

 

9.      A picture of a child with a colostomy. Name the colostomy and give possible diagnosis.

 

10.   A slide showing banana shape (PF) in RBC. Name it and how to prevent it.

 

11.   A fundoscopic picture showing diffuse hemorrhage. Give a diagnosis, 2 abnormalities seen, 2 predisposing factors and 2 complications.

 

12.   POP. Name the item, content and 5 complications.

 

13.   Left shoulder x-ray of 10 y/o girl, comment and give 2 possible diagnosis. (Fracture at neck of humerus with some calcification of the muscle around the fracture site)

 

14.   CTG was given with history of reduced fetal movements during labor. (Normal baseline beat to beat variability, but only 1 acceleration & 1 late deceleration). Comment on the CTG and give another investigation you would like to do in this patient. (Fetal scalp sampling)

 

15.   Antenatal card showing 36 y/o with history of abortion (at 8 weeks and 12 weeks) with neonatal death at 5 DOL. Give problem lists in this patient, 2 causes of abortion and name the procedure to overcome the abortion.

 

16.   A Pipelle catheter. Name the item, give 2 indications and 2 advantages using it.

 

17.   Patient has CIN III, counsel the patient regarding it, what step after the PAP smear and mode of treatment at this stage.

 

18.   T tube. Name the item, what procedure using it, how long to use and why is the tube long? 2 reasons.

 

19.   Demonstrate how to do simple interrupted suture (with forceps and needle holder)

 

20.   Redivac. Name the item, what principle behind it and name 3 operations using it.

 

21.   Student given patient’s finding of Glasgow coma scale. Grade it.

 

22.  Tracheostomy tube. Name the item, procedures and 6 complications.
