Subject: [CHESAPEAKE] USS SUFFOLK --> SB DELTA: LTJG Tats-Marush

SB DELTA
Another D-Warp shuttle docked, and Stavay Tats-Marush was soon on her
way down the corridors of SB Delta. The tears? Well, they were wiped
away, and the redness of her eyes would be unnoticed, as her dark
green skin was the attention-getter. Why was she even crying?
It was the bracelet. Another emblem of the fact that Stavay was female.
That girl on board the SUFFOLK. The bracelet Maie gave her. Stavay
believed, in her heart of hearts, that the differences between male and
female in the enlightened society of the 25th century were no more
than cosmetic. By the Goddess, when Stavay was a male, his sexuality
was a moot point as he was almost virginal.
There could be a lot of reasons for this change in behavior, thought
Stavay, as she looked for Matti Jokinen's office. It could be hormones.
Women often talked about changes in hormone levels causing bizarre behavior.
Furthermore, she hadn't read anything about Shrevashal women, and they
could simply be more high-strung than the basic human female.
It could be the year that she spent in the mental hospital. Was the
anxiety, the stress syndrome coming back? No. She didn't have those
old feelings of blame or self-doubt about what happened on Levan's
World.
It could be her lost memory. It was the most frightening of hypotheses.
So much of her childhood was lost. She knew the memories were painful,
and that woman, LT Jasmine Wayde, wanted to examine her own lost memories.
Her attempt to help Jasmine undoubtedly triggered a wave of anxiety, if
the depths of Stavay's memories could be so easily plumbed.
Yes. That must have been it. Not the bracelet.
Why did Stavay have the feeling that life was using her as a toy, sending
her halfway across the galaxy on a whim, ready to deposit her somewhere
for death at a moment's notice? Existential angst, perhaps.
However, VADM Matti Jokinen would probably not care very much. He had
work to do, and his interest in Stavay undoubtedly rested in telling
Stavay where she was to go next. She didn't know much about Jokinen,
and she hoped that the meeting with the Vice Admiral would be
short.
She found the door to Jokinen's office with some help. A yeoman
guarded the door to the Admiral's office. He was pleasant, and looked
at the Orion woman with unguarded interest as he guided her to the
Admiral's office...maybe he could ask her out....
Arriving at the office, Stavay saw VADM Jokinen looking out the large
window that framed the rest of his office. Small ships could be seen
scuttling to and fro, but Jokinen's guaze remained locked to some
unknown point in space. With supernatural awareness, Jokinen turned
to see the young woman who waited.
With trepidation, the woman stepped forward. "LTJG Stavay Tats-Marush
reporting as ordered, Sir...."
