MD 01.0945> A man stood a few meters away, looking expectantly at her. > Aelyria said a brief prayer that this was the man she was supposed to > report to, met his gaze, and said crisply, "Ensign Aelyria Keyrin > requesting permission to come aboard." "Permission granted, sir," he smiled. As she took in his words, she took in his rank pips -- a Chief Petty Officer. She allowed herself to relax a little. After the last two weeks, she deserved it. "Thank you, Chief." She returned his smile. "If you would come this way, sir, I'll take you to OPS, to take care of assigning you quarters, and to arrange for your belongings to be loaded." She adjusted the duffel's strap on her shoulder. "Lead the way." MD 01.1015 Scene: Bridge The turbolift doors opened before her, and she stepped out onto the Bridge. She was severely tempted to go straight to the TAC/SEC console and see what she would work with, but the man who stood up from the center chair and turned her way caught her attention. Keyrin walked briskly down the ramp and came to attention before him. This time, she managed to take a quick peek at the number of pips on the officer's collar, and found three solid ones there. "Ensign Aelyria Keyrin, Chief Security/Tactical Officer, reporting as ordered, sir." "Stand easy, Ensign." He nodded, and smiled at her. He seemed a friendly sort. "I suppose you know who I am," he continued, his accent clearly Terran British, "but I'll introduce myself anyway. Daniel Brennan, XO. I trust you've been assigned quarters?" "Yes, sir." "Very good. This is your first assignment, I believe?" "Yes, sir. I just finished ALB training." "Well, then," he nodded, "if I may make a suggestion, go and get yourself settled in first. However, I would like a status report of your department by the end of Beta Shift tomorrow -- that's 2300 hours. I believe that should give you plenty of time to get yourself and your department organized." "Yes, sir," she nodded. She couldn't contain her excitement. She was finally here! "That status report should contain your assessment of department readiness -- weapons and defense systems, supplies, number and training of personnel, and any other issue you feel affects our response to internal and external threats. Understood?" "Yes, sir." Her voice showed her excitement as well. Brennan smiled, looking away at the SEC/TAC console behind them. "I started where you were, nine years ago, in Security." When he turned back to look at her, however, his expression had sobered a little. "So if you have any questions, ask them. My job is to make sure things get done, and if you have problems doing your job, I want to know about it." Her body stiffened a little. "Yes, sir." "Good," nodded the Commander, smiling again. "Now, get to it, Ensign. Dismissed." "Thank you, sir." She turned on her heels, and took a few steps away, then paused. She turned back. "Sir?" "Yes, Ensign?" "I'm glad to be here, sir." He grinned. "So are we, Ensign." She smiled, then resumed her way back to her quarters. Respectfully Submitted, Takako Nagumo, CDR Daniel J. Brennan XO, USS CHESAPEAKE (NCC-31813) Task Force Beta, Green Fleet NRPG: Lynnaea: I made the man in the hallway an OPS enlisted man, since I figured Keyrin will want to settle in and find a place to put her stuff down first. :) I hope that I did not misplay her. Welcome aboard! Amy: I'm assuming our meeting wasn't be much longer than 20-30 minutes, if that. All: Uh, does anybody want to volunteer to be the keeper of the timeline? I really don't have time to do it. Pretty please? :) Takako -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Takako Nagumo http://www.oocities.org/TimesSquare/6318/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- CDR Daniel J.
