SD 90228.0320 MD 01.1415 Scene: SCI -> Brennan's Quarters > "I'm afraid I must be going," he said, standing up. "I will > let you know if anything can be... installed in your main lab." > "Yes. Thank you, sir," said Anne, standing up also. Brennan stood and, nodding acknowledgment, walked out of the office. Interesting young officer, he thought, as he made his way to the turbolift. Installing something... but what? He regretted that his talents were in languages, and not the sciences. More to the point, this would have to be dealt with by Operations, and the OPS officer, a LCDR Avikar th'Tellan, had yet to report. Well, I imagine we can get that taken care of eventually.... He made himself a mental note to talk to Commander th'Tellan about it as soon as he reported for duty. He took the turbolift to his quarters, down to Deck 6, number 0125. He walked through the doors into the middle of his yet-to- be-unpacked belongings. "I think," he said to no one in particular, as he stood amid the sea of boxes and containers, "I need help." He tapped his comm badge. "Brennan to OPS.""Would you please send me a couple stewards to help me unpack?" "Thank you. Brennan out." That done, he made his way over his boxes to the Starfleet-issue sofa and sat down. He made a mental note to do *something* about the hardness of the couch as he addressed the computer. "Computer, check for messages." [You have fifty-three messages.] He rolled his eyes. Fifty-three messages, he grumped. He shoved himself up again off the sofa, and made his way back over his boxes to the communication console. He pulled out the chair as far as it would go, sat down, and tapped the panel to life. Many of them were preliminary reports on the ship's status, most of which he had seen in the Bridge Log. He skimmed through those quickly. A Science Department notice caught his eye. Ah, the department-wide meeting LT Murray had mentioned, he realized. He then also realized that he had not asked for a status report from her, as he had with ENS Keyrin. Leaning back into his chair, he let his gaze wander off to the ceiling and quickly dashed off a note. "Computer, compose message. Recipient, LT Anne Murray, Chief Science Officer, USS CHESAPEAKE. Lieutenant: Please prepare a departmental status report, indicating readiness for departure, and send to me by the end of Beta Shift tomorrow, at 2300 hours. Thank you. Sign, CDR Daniel J. Brennan, Executive Officer, USS CHESAPEAKE. Computer, send." That done, his eyes returned to the console. One message down the list caught his eye, a message addressed to the entire fleet -- from CINCSF. His eyebrow rose as he opened and started to read. By the time he finished it, he was smiling broadly. He tapped another part of the panel. "Initiate ship to base communications. Recipient, CDR Julianna Sforza, COMREC, SB ALPHA." [Working.... Connection established.] The UFP logo disappeared to show the interior of an office at Starfleet Command. With the looks of it, it was in the midst of changing residents. An officer with a full commander's pips came into view, a woman with long, curly dark hair cursorily held back by a single barrette. Her harried expression melted into delight. "Thank Starfleet's communication system," he grinned, as he saw his twin sister smile. "Heard about your appointment. Congratulations, Jules. You deserve it." She seemed to be trying to look into his quarters. she smiled. "Yes," he nodded, "just got assigned to the USS CHESAPEAKE." He nodded. "Jokinen even gave me new jewelry." She peered closer, then laughed. "You did," he grinned. "By a day, anyway." she said, as something dawned on her, "Executive Officer." "I'm sure they will... although I still don't know when I can come home for Christmas." She nodded. There was a pause, and a faint look of concern crossed her face. "Yes." He could see her swallow. "We go where the Fleet sends us, remember?" Her voice was pained. "I know, too." She nodded, and sighed, resigned. There was an uncomfortable silence, and Julie broke it. His face lit up at the mention of their older brother. "What is he getting himself into, now?" "That might not be so bad. James doesn't have to take care of Ethan anymore, and with both their connections, I think a terraforming consultancy could do quite well. They won't want for Federation contracts, I'm sure." "Oh. I see." He looked away briefly from the screen in thought. "Well, Christopher will do what he likes, as he's always has. He's an adult, and so is James. James will keep Christopher in line, I'm sure." "Right. Same here. I'll talk to you soon." As he cut the connection, his door pleeped. His verbal acknowledgment brought in two young crewmen, obviously nervous at being sent to the quarters of the Executive Officer. "Ah," grinned Brennan, "thank you for coming. What service." The two looked at each other in puzzlement. This was their job, after all. The commander started to point to various boxes around the room. "Right. The things in these three boxes go in the bedroom. The other things are things for the sitting area, and these,...." Respectfully Submitted, Takako Nagumo, CDR Daniel J. Brennan XO, USS CHESAPEAKE (NCC-31813) Task Force Beta, Green Fleet NRPG: Gratuitous mentions of my other characters. Masako: I forgot to make Brennan ask Murray for a departmental status report. You can tell this is the first time I'm doing this XO thing. :) Just assume it's the same deal as with Keyrin -- the report is due before MD 2.2300.
