From: MGOTO@indiana.edu (Masako Goto) Date: Fri, 28 Feb 1997 20:21:55 -0500 (EST) Subject: USS CHESAPEAKE: Science Department Status Report
SD 90301.0100 ----------- XO's Office ----------- MD 1.1900 "What can I do for you, Lieutenant?" asked Commander Brennan, looking up from his pile of PADDs. "I have the science department status report, sir," said Anne, presenting the PADD she held as Exhibit A. Commander Brennan took the Exhibit and looked it over thoughtfully. "Oxygen dispenser discharged without proper controls, I see," he said finally. "I hope they're fixing that." "It was completed, sir," said Anne, mortified that she had forgotten to add that little tidbit on her report. "That's good." He handed back the PADD. "You got my message about seeing Commander th'Tellan, I suppose?" "Yes, sir. Thank you, sir." Brennan nodded slightly, then looked expectantly at Anne. "Well?" he said amiably, "what do you have to report on your department, Lieutenant?" "The department is only loosely organized at the moment," said Anne, her voice confident. "I take full responsibility for that lapse. We will be conducting emergency procedure drills tomorrow morning. The executive officers have been assigned, and the certified specialists have been assigned as well. We will need to hold some training sessions for the students, however. There was a... mishap in the Physical Sciences Division earlier today, which might account for the oxygen dispenser's malfunctions." She briefly told him what she thought had occurred. Then she resumed her report. "The Biological Sciences Department reports all systems functional. Supply is satisfactory. The Physical Sciences Department reports all systems functional. Supply is slightly low; they need another model of dilithium molecular structure and some laboratory equipment. I will send the list to OPS. The Computer and Intelligence Sciences Department reports all systems functional. Supply is satisfactory. The Mathematics and Logic Department reports all systems functional. Supply... well, they don't *have* any, but Lieutenant Serak assures me that they are quite content with what they have. "Of the staff, sixty are official crew members. Each of the executive officer has an average of three to five years of Starfleet service. The Chairman of each Division taught at some point, either at Starfleet Academy or at the Vulcan Science Academy. They have an average of three years of Starfleet service. The Specialists have been certified for an average of three months, and they have an average of two years of Starfleet service. The Researchers have an average of three to five years of Starfleet service. The Students were selected by the Starfleet Academy Placement Officer or the Vulcan Science Academy External Affairs Officer and average three months of shipboard duties. The average ages are listed on the PADD." She held out another PADD, Exhibit B. The Commander took the PADD, wondering why people's age seemed to be such a taboo in some parts of the world. "Good," said the XO after a minute, handing back the Exhibit. "And what about those research programs?" "We are in the process of selecting the relevant personnel," replied Anne. "The Resource Manager, the Research Coordinator, and I will be meeting later tonight to discuss the matter." "I see." The Commander paused. "Anything else?" "Not at present, sir." "Very well, then. Dismissed." Anne retrieved the PADD and left the office, wondering if she really should go see the OPS officer. Respectfully submitted, Masako Goto Lt. Anne Murray, Ph.D. CSciO USS CHESAPEAKE *NRPG* Takako: I'm very sorry that I made a notational error on the timeline. I know that Brennan is supposed to be a Commander. I fixed the problem. Also, apologies if I referred to him by the wrong rank in my last post. Melvin: The psychotic stressed-out CSciO is headed your way...
