SD 90301.0120 ----------------- Murray's quarters ----------------- MD 1.1940 Deciding that she had done enough running around for a bit, Anne returned to her quarters and glanced at the computer console. Hm. New messages already? "Computer, display index of messages."Well! That was slightly better than 542, thought Anne. She looked at the title and frowned. The message from the CNS was back, and it was exactly the same one that she had deleted. All right, maybe the keyboard input system was malfunctioning. She decided to try a vocal command. "Computer, delete message n-1." "Auth... computer, display identity of individuals with authorization to delete message." Anne felt not a little spooked. "Computer, display time of deletion authorization insertion." If that doesn't flummox the computer... That would be after she had deleted the message. The computer would have done a search for the message and stuck it back into her inbox. She'd had experiences with this type of thing before; as assistant CSciO in a department where students were wont to ditch department meetings, she had had to use such authorization codes herself. Sometimes, thought Anne, you don't need punishment. All you need is an over-obedient computer. "Computer, display identity of individuals responsible for deletion authorization insertion." "Whaddaya mean, access denied?" demanded Anne, forgetting that the computer wouldn't tell her. She changed her tone, making it as cold as the computer's. "Computer, display ID of *individual* responsible for DAI." If only she could find a loophole... Great. The individual responsible for placing the authorization order could be anyone or anything, including an automatic screening program. She had used those programs as well. She gave up. "Computer, display message n-2." It was another message from Myron. he bubbled.
