Subject: USS CHESAPEAKE: CMO reports/SEC's Status Report, Take Two
(Sorry -- sent out last one with wrong subject heading. tn)
NRPG WARNING: Anglophone French coming up. Well, Brennan is supposed
to be able to speak it perfectly -- unfortunately, *I* can't. Please
forgive any horrible grammatical/idiomatic mistakes, and pretend
that they are not there.

Scene: Bridge
> With her eyes fixed firmly on the deck beneath their feet, Catherine
> spoke in a quiet voice. "Lieutenant Commander Catherine Ledoux,
> Chief Medical Officer, reporting for duty, sir."
Commander Brennan looked up and smiled pleasantly. "At ease, Commander.
Welcome aboard the USS CHESAPEAKE."
"Thank you, sir."
He quickly recalled her biofile he had read earlier in the morning.
The French Canadian officer's voice was so quiet it threatened to be
swallowed by the sounds coming from the various stations -- which was
hardly any; the only manned station at the moment was helm, and the
ship wasn't flying anywhere at the moment.
"Doctor... is something wrong?" He entertained but quickly
dismissed the nagging thought that perhaps he had forgotten to
shave that morning, or something.
She looked up quickly, then looked back down again. "No, sir."
He had caught a quick glimpse of bright blue eyes -- her eyes
weren't red anymore, but that puffiness had to have been from
tears. He also realized that she wasn't going to look him in the
eye, if she could help it.
He sat back down in the XO's seat and tilted his head a bit. From
that perspective, he could see her face, which confirmed what he had
thought. He took off his commbadge, temporarily disabling the
universal communicator.
"Docteur Ledoux," he addressed her in French, "nous sommes tres contents
(Doctor Ledoux, we are very happy that you decided to join us on the
CHESAPEAKE, and I would not like you to begin your stay here with
problems, especially if we can resolve them, these problems. Because we
are here -- myself, especially, but also Captain Bell -- to help you, so
that you can do your job without impediments. Do you understand?)"
His flawless French was apparently not quite what was expected, as she
had looked up at him, her eyes wide.
"Merci. (Thank you.)"
"Alors, je croix que c'est tout, maintenant. Vous e^te rompue, Docteur
Ledoux. (Well, I believe that is all, for now. You are dismissed,
Doctor Ledoux.)"
"Yes, sir."
He thought he caught a small smile of relief as she wheeled around on
her heels and walked up the ramp. As the doors to the turbolift
closed on the doctor's figure, he stood up, rubbed his chin, and,
putting his communicator back on his uniform, proceeded to the head.

Ensign Aelyria Keyrin, Chief of Security for the USS CHESAPEAKE,
was nothing if not thorough. Brennan had been listening quietly
as the young Ensign had come in for the second time in as many
days, this time with her department's status report. He looked
over the PADDs given him for his perusal as she came to a close.
> "And I believe that takes care of that." She paused, and looked
> carefully at Brennan's expression. "Unless you have something else
> you'd like to know, sir?"
He pushed a few buttons on the PADD, uploading the report into his
computer station, then looked back up at the officer standing
across from his desk.
"No, thank you, Ensign." He stood and handed back her report.
"Excellent job -- very thorough."
Keyrin managed a small smile. Her stance relaxed from the stiff-as-
a-board posture she had assumed when she had come in ten minutes ago.
"Thank you, sir."
"Now, I can see that you still have some training schedules to plan
and present. I will not keep you. Dismissed."

Respectfully Submitted,
Takako Nagumo,
CDR Daniel J. Brennan
XO, USS CHESAPEAKE (NCC-31813)
Task Force Beta, Green Fleet
NRPG:
As I said, please *pretend* he can speak French....
Chris: I hope I did not misplay Ledoux. As mentioned before
briefly in passing, Brennan likes to try to be understood, and
to be related to (so to speak), and using the other's language
has always been one of his modus operandi.
Lynnaea: That was very good -- which is why I didn't do much here. :)
Melvin: I seem to not have gotten your last post, to which Masako
refers in her post "Administration Takes Over the MLD--Well, Not
Really." Would you please send it to me? Thanks. :)
All: Unless Amy says otherwise, the Officers' Dinner takes place at
01.2100 in the Officers' Mess (how original, huh? )
Also, re: our first mission -- we are still working out the kinks,
but it *is* in the works. :)
Takako
