Subject: USS CHESAPEAKE: Thank's for the memories....

MD 2.1505
Lt Murray had finished writing her messages, and lay on her bed.
The late night began to take a toll on her, and the recent failure of her
department wasn't helping her mood. She began to wonder if things were
going to turn out all right.
[th'Tellan to Lt Murray.]
Apparently not. "Murray, here. Go ahead."
[Can you please meet me in my office 15 minutes from now?]
Murray struggled to sit up. "I'm on my way."
Scene: th'Tellan's office
MD 2.1520
Ensign Sereh walked into the office, and took one look at the
receptionist. Her eyes shot up almost as high as the secretary's dress.
"Excuse me, I do not believe that we have been acquainted."
"Hhhhhmmm? Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Ensign Abromowitz. Please call me
Heidi. Anyway, I'm from the secretary pool."
"I see. My name is Sereh. I'm the assistant Chief Engineering
Officer. So, are you th'Tellan's permanent secretary?"
"Well not officially. In fact, I'm supposed to get some work done
for Cmdr Brennan in a couple of minutes. But I must say that I enjoy
working here. The second officer is especially nice. Hey, do you think
that I might have a shot with him?"
"I believe that to be unlikely. For one thing, he already has a
romantic involvement with myself...."
"Ah, you lucky devil. Well, I really wasn't that interested in
th'Tellan, anyway. Just thought I'd ask. Say, you want to get
together, sometime?"
"Perhaps at a later date," Sereh said calmly. A careful observer,
however, could see that Sereh walked into th'Tellan's office a little more
quickly than usual.
th'Tellan, Murray and Keyrin were already inside. Sereh could see
that he was using his Vulcan techniques to remain somewhat calm.
"Welcome, Sereh. I believe that you've met everyone here. Please sit
down."
th'Tellan watched as Sereh took a seat next to Miller. "Now,
then. I've been made aware of certain drills being held in the Security
and Science departments. Sereh, your report."
"Sir, after careful inspection of the drill areas, we have found
structural weakening in several areas due to various explosions. Also,
various computer terminals will need to be replaced, power needs to be
rerouted, and we have a strain on the power grid due to someone
experimenting with the replicators. Estimated time to repair: 1 hr, 12
minutes, 27 seconds."
"Keyrin, Murray. I understand that these problems were caused to
various unannounced drills held in non-testing systems. I was wondering
if you would care to justify the situation."
"It was absolutely necessary that we find out how our staff would
perform in an emergency situation, sir," Ensign Keyrin replied. "We both
figured that, since it is necessary to determine how the crew would react
before we actually took off."
"It was a good thing that we did," Murray added. "It turns out
that the people in my science department don't understand much in terms of
protocol or emergency procedure."
th'Tellan nodded. "I can understand the need for these drills. I
can even understand why they've been unannounced. What I can't understand
is why I need to devote the work crews and the paperwork time to handle
your destructiveness."
"I apologize for that," Keyrin said. "We did not expect the
damage to be this severe. However, as I said before, we needed to see how
people responded to protocols...."
"Considering that these tests are out of protocol range, I think
you may want to take a look at the manual as well."
Keyrin felt her blood pressure rise. (again.) "They may not fit
protocol, but we felt it was necessary to try something new.
And while we're on the subject, I seriously doubt that someone known for
committing AWOL can give a lecture on protocol."
th'Tellan looked Keyrin straight in the eye, a look of rage
crossing his face. "I can't believe that you even brought up such an
issue. You've ignored Starfleet rules, and then attacked a superior
officer in an emotional and petty way." Suddenly, th'Tellan started
smiling. "I knew there was a reason that I liked you."
th'Tellan's face became as impassive as Sereh's. "All right,
since we've already established that I'm not the greatest follower of
procedure, and since all the departments need to perform drills anyway,
I'm going to ignore these incidents for now. I personally believe that
it's good to be creative, and that rules should have exceptions, but
please keep in mind that you're actions usually have consequences. And if
you ever pull something like this again, I will personally escort you out
an airlock.
"Ensign Sereh, I'm sending work group 3 to repair the damage.
In the meantime, I'd like you to work with Ensign Murray to see if you can
get the Science Staff in working order. Everyone, dismissed."
As Sereh left the room, she found herself pleased that Abromowitz
had already left.
Scene: th'Tellan's quarters
MD 3.0100
th'Tellan was awakened by a loud siren in his room. "Computer,
report."
[Active Virus currently spreading through computer systems. Safety
precautions are being breached.]
th'Tellan went to a computer console and pressed a few buttons.
"Not bad," he said to himself. "I've written better, but it's not bad at
all. This piece in particular was a nice touch. Computer, initiate
computer procedure th'Tellan 119. Lock the virus out of the bridge and
OPS stations, but leave it free to take care of everything else."
[Done.]
"Compose message to Ensign Keyrin. Tell her that I'd like to set
a meeting time, preferably in front of airlock 1."
[Done.]
"Good," th'Tellan said as he lay back down. "Good night."
NRPG: Takako: Hey Brennan, heads up.
James: Except for Sereh, all of my NPCs are non - protected. So
have fun. The "android" idea definitely produces a lot of possibilities,
doesn't it?
Lynnaea: You knew that you would be reprimanded for it. Well,
this is it. By the way, don't think too harshly of th'Tellan, who seems
to have a lot in common with Keyrin.
Masako: I hope that you don't mind that Sereh's going to help
out. A quick bio: she's intelligent, articulate, and Vulcanly
unemotional. I already covered her romance with th'Tellan, but she won't
let that affect her judgement, and she won't use it as a bullying tactic.
(Whether or not anyone knows depends on the grapevine system.) Likewise,
Sereh isn't likely to be bullied, or let someone with higher rank silence
her. Nor is she likely to voice anything personal.
Also, if you want to send questions, go right ahead. Bear in mind
that th'Tellan is not one who appreciates being probed, and he's going to
recognize your psychological test in his sleep.
