SD 90324.2200 MD 03.1630 Scene: USS CHESAPEAKE: Transporter Room Ens Jareth Gann slowly materialized in a swirl of sparkling light that seemed to set his pale skin and white hair afire. He stood with well-concealed excitement on the transporter pad. He paused for a moment, savoring his arrival. This was his first post aboard a starship. Sure, he had been on several training cruises during his time at the Academy, but this was different. There was no going back to the classroom when he was finished for the day. The sound of a throat clearing brought his thoughts back to reality. Standing behind the transporter console was a young brown-haired man with Chief Petty Officer pips on his collar. He was waiting for Jareth to quickly finish his reverie so he could attend to some other task. "Permission to come aboard," Jareth requested. "Permission granted," the officer said. "Welcome aboard." Jareth stepped off the pad and, rather than walk straight out the door, went to the man and extended his hand to him. "Thank you. My name is Gann. Jareth Gann." "John Mayberry," he replied, hesitating a moment before shaking Gann's hand. Jareth quickly got the impression that this man was not one just for idle chitchat. *Perhaps, if I take a different tact,* the Trill mused. "Do you know if SB Delta has transmitted my biodata into the manframe? I'd hate to get locked in a turbo because I wasn't recognized as an authorized entity." He knew the proper procedure, but played ignorance to see how the man would respond. The man's face brightened somewhat as his fingers danced across the console. He seemed to come alive as he accessed the computer system. "Automatically done prior to transport. Data is secured, command access only. You're safe. So, what are you in for?" "Chief Engineer," Jareth answered. "Life sentence, but I hear I may get out sooner for good behavior." "If they don't promote you first," the man chuckled slightly. "Well, at any rate, we're almost fully staffed," Mayberry said. "I thought we'd never be leaving spacedock. You better check in with the Bridge." "That's my next stop," the engineer said as he turned for the door. "Be seeing you." The doors closed softly behind him. Ens Gann couldn't help noticing the pristine interior of the rooms and corridors. *Never been on a starship this new! Nice to know we have something in common, Ches,* he patted a bulkhead as he walked by. *I'd love to run down to her engine room real quick.* Jareth could almost feel the thrumming of the Hood-class vessel's warpcore, calling to him. *But, there'll be plenty of time for that later. First things first.* He hopped into the nearest turbolift and headed for the Bridge. *Even the turbocabs smell new. Sheesh,* He shook his head as the doors suddenly oped at his destination. It appeared quite busier than he'd expected. *No doubt, everyone is anxious at leaving dock.* He stepped out of the lift and looked to see if the Captain or XO was here. If not, he thought, the deck officer n charge would do.* Respectfully submitted by, Ens Jareth Gann USS Chesapeake, CEO Michael Stevens Morrandir@aol.comAmy: CEO reporting for duty, sir! :) Takako: My bio's on its way!
