Subject: USS CHESAPEAKE: Brennan Meets the FCO and CEO

Scene: XO's Office
Dr. Catherine Ledoux was in his office, giving him a report of the
situation in Sickbay. After briefing him on personnel and supplies,
she concluded,> "I think that's all, sir."
Brennan nodded, looked down at the PADD given him.
> "What about the medical labs and the research labs?" Brennan queried.
> "Oh!" Catherine raised a hand to her mouth and her blush deepened.
> "Ummm, we don't have any research projects yet, sir," she began, her
> voice barely above a whisper. "And tomorrow we will be starting to
> run the bioreactors that will produce the pharmaceuticals that cannot
> be replicated."
There was a pause. > "Anything else, sir?"
"Hmm... I don't think so, Doctor. But perhaps once Sickbay is settled
in, and the pharmaceutical supplies are taken care of, you can put
together the CHESAPEAKE's medical research roster. Whenever that is
ready, if you would let me see it...."
"Of course, Commander." She spoke softly, on the verge of inaudibility.
"Thank you, Doctor." He stood, pulling down his uniform jacket. "If
there isn't anything else...."
"No, sir." She smiled shyly.
He smiled back. "Then you're dismissed, Doctor."
She turned quietly and left. He watched her go. As the doors shut
behind her, he wondered why such a beautiful, intelligent, and
accomplished woman could be so shy about herself.

Scene: Bridge
The turbolift doors opened, and CDR Brennan briskly walked onto
the Bridge. He thought he had caught something on the viewscreen
but by the time his eyes actually looked at the screen, all he
could see was Vulcan as SB DELTA hovered above it. He shrugged,
nodded to the couple of Science officers working at the rear
consoles, then walked down the ramp as he took in the current
Bridge staff.
Ah... a new Flight Control Officer. The red-haired young man
looked back, and Brennan smiled at him. The FCO quickly turned
around again, facing his console. I wonder, thought Brennan, if a
red uniform always had this effect on younger officers.
He took the conn and started going over the logs of the past two
shifts.
New Chief Engineering Officer and Flight Control Officer reported
during Beta shift... both straight out of ALB. He made a mental
count. They had experienced officers in Operations, Sciences,
Sickbay and Counselling, but the others were all fresh out of
Advanced Officer Training. He would have to go down to
Engineering and see about how this Ensign Gann is settling into
his new department. As for the Flight Control Officer....
Brennan coughed. "Mister... O'Graeach?"
The FCO nearly tripped out of his chair in surprise. He managed
to right himself as he stood. "Sir?"
"At ease, Ensign." Brennan stood as well. His voice was stern,
but his eyes twinkled with humour. "Nice to meet you. Daniel
Brennan, Executive Officer." He extended his hand.
"Sir! Ensign Ozwald O'Graeach, at your service, sir!" He grinned
and took the extended hand, shaking it vigorously.
"Ah... well... good. Very good, Ensign." He thought his arm was
about to be shaken out of its socket. "Ensign... you can let go,
now."
O'Graeach quickly let go. "I'm sorry, sir."
"Not a problem." He really wanted to rub his shoulder, but
decided against it... the man was already nervous; he didn't need
to worry about having possibly injured him.
"Ensign," he started again, "I see you had an interesting time
coming on board."
"Uh... yes, sir... I mean, uh...."
"If I may so suggest, Ensign, studying the layout of the ship may
prevent you from having another *interesting* time aboard the
ship."
"Yes, sir," he nodded quickly.
"Not good for crew morale, you know," the Commander said, "knowing
that the Navigator got lost on his own ship. In any case," he
smiled, "welcome aboard, Mister O'Graeach. Or, perhaps,
'Failte.'"
"Tapadh leibh," replied O'Graeach, grinning. "I didn't realize
you spoke Gaelic, sir."
"I like learning languages." He smiled, then nodded. "Thank you,
Ensign. Please resume your post. And, oh, before I forget," he
continued, "please give me a departmental readiness report to me
by 1500 hours tomorrow."
He saw O'Graeach swallow. "Yes, sir."
Brennan nodded again, then looked about the Bridge briefly.
"Well, it seems most things are in order for the moment. I'll be
down in Engineering for a bit this morning. Carry on."
He heard the Ensign's "yes, sir" as he turned and walked up the
ramp into the waiting turbolift.

Scene: Main Engineering
"This ship is brand new, all right," muttered Jareth Gann, as he
pulled his head out of the access panel and sat back down on the
floor.
Gann was in his element this morning. A brand new ship, a whole
brand new ship, and he was in charge of its engines -- her Chief
Engineer. He thought he couldn't wipe the grin off his face if
his life had depended on it. Well, maybe if his life had depended
on it, perhaps, but he was definitely enjoying himself.
He stuck his head back into the access panel, his legs sticking
out toward the Master Systems Display. "Hmm... this wiring scheme
is interesting," he talked to himself, "they've connected the GNDN
wire to augment the secondary power coupling...."
"Ensign Jareth Gann?"
The sudden mention of his name made him jump. Which was a
problem, as he was still horizontal, with his head in the access
panel. He quickly scrambled out, careful not to hit his head
against the opening, and stood, to come face to face with a male
human, command from the colour of the uniform. Closer inspection
revealed him to be a Commander.
"Sir!" He quickly came to attention.
"At ease, Ensign. I was told I could find you here." The
Commander smiled. "I see you've already started to familiarise
yourself with the systems."
"Yes, sir," Gann nodded enthusiastically.
"I'm sorry," the commander said, "you must be wondering who I am.
Daniel Brennan, Executive Officer, USS CHESAPEAKE." He extended
his hand. "Welcome aboard, Mister Gann."
"Thank you, sir. Glad to be here."
"Well, good." Brennan looked about a bit. "So, Mister Gann, how
are our propulsion systems? And how long until we can leave
port?"

Respectfully Submitted,
Takako Nagumo,
CDR Daniel J. Brennan
XO, USS CHESAPEAKE (NCC-31813)
Task Force Bravo, Green Fleet

NRPG:
Fabian, Michael: As Melvin has said earlier, welcome aboard. :) I hope
I didn't mangle your characters. :) I'm sorry I didn't get to you
sooner.
Michael: If you would pick up where I left off... also, make sure
Brennan asks Gann for a departmental report by 1500 hours, Day 5,
just like O'Graeach.
Fabian: You currently have my one protected NPC in your
department, ENS Andalucia "Lucie" Lewis. She's a 21-year-old
Human, 5'8", slim build, short brown hair. She's fresh out of the
Academy -- and I mean fresh; this is her very first posting. She
elected to bypass ALB to get field experience. Other than that,
she's not very developed yet. If you don't want to deal with her,
I'll just transfer her to my office, or something. :)
James: Does Stavay want to see Brennan for a psych review, too?
Melvin: LOL re your last post. :) Editor, indeed!
Chris: Sorry I didn't get back to you re: Medical Dept. report sooner.
I hope that was okay.
All: Good posting, everybody! :) Mission briefing coming soon.
Really. I mean it.... (so Takako says, as she looks at Amy )
