SD 90422.2236 ---------------- CSciO's Quarters ---------------- MD 5.1700 "Yes? *Hello*?" snapped Anne Murray into the comm panel. She was just a teeny bit annoyed by the interruption; she was changing into her off-duty outfit, a pale blue blouse and white skirt, and rather resented the rude intrusion. "You don't happen to know which vial the students in BS were going to be using, do you?" asked Derek Fielding. Anne could hear some scuffling noices in the background. "What in the *world* are you *doing*, Derek Fielding?" the Chief Science Officer demaned, her annoyance growing. "It's the rabbit, Anne," said Derek, sounding a bit more than nervous. "Karen's lab bunny. One of the kids gave it..." "*What are they doing in the biology lab*?" demanded Anne. "Uh... that's not the issue..." "Of *course* it's the issue! Now *get them out*, I don't want to hear anything else about the whole affair! I don't want to hear a single *peep* out of the Biological Sciences Division this evening, and that is *final*. Murray *out*." There immediately ensued a frantic flurry of chirps and beeps, but Anne paid no attention, calmly putting on her outfit and deliberately taking her time with straightening her collar. If it were a true emergency, he'd no doubt come find her. Until that time, Anne was going to ignore the whole situation. When she said no students were to be allowed in the labs, she *meant* that no students were to be allowed in the labs, no exceptions. [Suvok to Murray,] said a voice. "Go ahead, Suvok," said Anne, glad of the difference in tone. Suvok might be less of an approachable being, but he always managed to sound as though everything were in control. Through her years in school and Starfleet, Anne had learned that, sometimes, the semblance of control was even more effective than having actual control. [The Mathematics and Logic Division has compiled a list of readings for your perusal, sir,] stated the Vulcan calmly. [The Division has also taken the liberty of earmarking those you might find especially useful.] "How gratuitously helpful of them," commented Anne, looking at herself in the mirror. "Thank you, Suvok. Please send the list to the console in my quarters immediately." She would be meeting the CMO for dinner in a couple of hours, but she was fairly certain that she could get some reading done by that time. "Oh, Suvok, I just remembered," said Anne suddenly. "Please get me the report that Serak submitted to me earlier this afternoon. He wanted it for something, and I should think that he's done with it by now." She resisted the urge to add, "now be a good Vulcan and take it away from him logically." [The report of which you speak is not currently in Lieutenant Serak's possession,] replied Suvok in his infuriatingly calm voice. "Excuse me? He took it from me just this afternoon. He *must* have it. Or did he chicken out and decide that there *weren't* ninety uterances of the word 'sir' after all?" [I do not understand the reference, sir... however, I believe that Lieutenant Serak submitted one report to you this afternoon, and I know that he does not currently possess it.] Anne was mumbling something rather unprintable into her blouse. [Pardon, sir?] inquired the Vulcan solicitously. "Nothing, Suvok," said Anne, beginning to feel like rather a fool. "Just give Lieutenant Decker a tread on the head, will you?" [A tread on the head, sir?] asked the Vulcan. Anne could almost see the eyebrows beginning to rise. "Hit her upside the head," said Anne bluntly. "She stole my report, and *I want it back*. Do you know how much time I've spent the last half-hour trying to convince myself that there actually *were* ninety-occurrences of the word 'sir' in that report?" [Perhaps you need some rest, sir,] suggested Suvok. "You're probably right," said Anne. "Now you just be sure to get me those references, and that infernal report by Serak, too. I want them here by 1730, and that is the *latest*. Understood?" [I think so, sir.] Suvok sounded rather resigned. "Goooood." Anne let the word linger for a moment; she was feeling rather generous, now that Suvok was being so cooperative. "That will be all, Lieutenant. Murray out." As she cut the connection and fixed her hair, Anne hoped that the references, and, more importantly, Serak's mysteriously disappearing report, would come her way soon. After all, no day was complete without some light-hearted scientific reading. Respectfully submitted, Masako Goto Lt. Anne Murray, Ph.D. CSciO USS CHESAPEAKE NCC-31813 <> She made me write it! Really! Blame Anne if you didn't like this post! *I* was just going to see what kind of literature she was going to read, but *oh, no*, *she* had to get excited about everything. In any case, this should explain why Anne doesn't get ticked off at O'Graeach right away after his fiasco with the bunny... she didn't hear about it until some time later. :) And no, she's not being weird... she's just getting some scientific work done, and she's annoyed that her senior staff seems to be questioning her reading material. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thought for the day: If you were an actor/actress, what kind of roles would you like to play? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
