SD 90423.1747 MD 05.0900 Scene: USS CHESAPEAKE: Holodeck 2 Doctor Caitlin Donne critically examined the medical staff arryed before her, her hazel eyes sharp and penetrating. Having left Doctor Bruce Willingham, the Vulcan with the intriguing name, in charge of Sickbay, the remained of the CHESAPEAKE's medical personnel were present in the holodeck for their training session. Today's drill was exclusively for the Sickbay staff; the drill take place on the following day would include cross-trained personnel from other departments. Doctor Willingham, while granted a repreive from the training session this day, would not be spared on the morrow. Eyes dancing with a trace of mischief, Caitlin cleared her throat, gesturing for attention. The quiet murmurs of the assembled doctors, nurses and medtechs drifted into silence. Caitlin smiled. "Good morning everyone," Doctor Donne greeted the crowd, her Irish accent faintly noticeable. "As you know, today we will be participating in a series of medical drills." Bored looks greeted the aCMO. They knew all of this - why bother repeating the information? "While the drills are based upon standard emergency procedures," Caitlin continued, "there are a few surprises thrown in." Caitlin grinned as that statement met with some response. "I expect that you will all be able to handle them, although some of the scenarios _will_ be challenging." A few doubtful looks could be seen in the crowd. "Although we are in the holodeck," Caitlin stated, "_please_ treat your patients as if they were real. Indeed, after a while, you will forget that this is just a simulation, for everything that you will encounter is an accurate reflection of reality." Several individuals nodded. Having previously experience holodeck sims, they knew that the experience seemed _very_ real. "Any questions?" Caitlin waited for any response. "No? All right then." Pitching her voice for the computer, Doctor Donne announced, "Computer, begin programme Medical Sim I." With that, the familiar yellow-on-black grid disappeared, and the medical personnel found themselves in the midst of chaos... *** *** *** *** *** An hour later the CHESAPEAKE's medical staff was still working frantically. This first simulation was a natural disaster scenario, in which the medical personnel found themselves assisiting the inhabitants of a planet that had been devastated by massive geological changes: earthquakes, volcanos and floods had wreaked havoc upon the planet's geology and, more importantly, its inhabitants. Sweat ran in rivulets down many of the officers' faces, while blood, both red and green in colour, speckled their skin and their clothing. Other fluids, less easily identified, stained several Starfleet uniforms, as the liquids eventually seeped into fabric. Surrounded by devastation, Doctor Donne walked from one patient to another; lending a hand here, making a suggestion there, helping to keep everyone going. So far, the assistant Chief Medical Officer was impressed. Most of the medical personnel were aware of their strengths and weaknesses; they knew when they could handle something by themselves, and when they required some assistance. Most of the medical personnel were aware. Most of them. Caitlin was keeping a close eye on Doctor DawnFire to-Ennien. The petite Sivaoan seemed convinced that she could handle absolutely anything and everything by herself. Adamantly refusing to ask for help it was almost as if she considered that a weakness. Caitlin knew that she would have trouble with the Sivaoan physician at some point down the line. Teamwork was essential, especially during an emergency situation. Promising herself that she would watch Doctor DawnFire to-Ennien, Caitlin moved on. It was almost time to wrap up this simulation. Respectfully submitted, LT Caitlin Donne, MD Assistant Chief Medical Officer USS CHESAPEAKE << NRPG >> Just a short little post as I try to get back into the rhythm of writing.
