Subject: USS CHESAPEAKE: Back on Track

Scene: Ready Room -> Bridge

"It could be a tough session. Both sides have a rather extensive
set of demands, and show little indication of a willingness to
compromise."

Commander Brennan sat across the desk from Captain Bell as he
continued the morning briefing.

"These things are unpredictable." Bell sipped her coffee, then
put it down. "And I'm sure we can devise some alternatives to
non-negotiation that they will find... unfavorable."

"Yes, sir, although I'd like to think we can work out some kind of
mutual agreement."

"Of course."

Brennan thought he heard a shade of cynicism in her voice. He let
himself observe her for one more moment, made a mental note, then
moved on. "I'll be meeting with Ensign Keyrin and Lieutenant
Shachor about the security arrangement tomorrow afternoon. The
Security staff is gathering some intelligence on Corellis and the
ShipOres delegates, and some of the Marines will be detailed to
Security."

"How many are we expecting?"

"Three from each side. Corellis will most likely send a
representative from the foreign ministry, perhaps the Minister
herself, and two aides. ShipOres will have a regional
administrator, an assitant, and legal counsel. I should have the
details to you after the meeting."

"And the science side?"

"Lieutenant Fielding informed me this morning that the MLD should
be finished today, and we will have the report on our desks
tomorrow morning."

She simply nodded as she picked up her cup again, and sipped.
"Anything else?

He nodded in reply. "Some matters regarding personnel."

Brennan presented Bell with the first of two PADDs. "I approved
the transfer of Lieutenant Stenford of Sciences back to DELTA --
there was a family emergency, for which his presence was
absolutely necessary."

Bell put down her cup, took the PADD, and skimmed it quickly.
"Very well. Do we have a replacement?"

"Yes, sir. Lieutenant Fielding conferred with Lieutenant Murray,
and they have both agreed that Ensign Sereh would be ideal."

"Ensign Sereh -- Engineering?"

"Yes," he nodded, "she was initially assigned as Assistant Chief
Engineering Officer, but her jacket shows she has an exceptional
background in the sciences, as well as supervisory and teaching
experience. Pending your official approval," he continued, as he
handed her the second PADD, "I have transferred the Ensign to
Sciences as acting head of the Biological Sciences Division, with
a recommendation for promotion to Lieutenant, junior grade."

"I will approve the transfer," she said, as she signed both PADDs
with the lightpen. "As for the promotion, I will make the
decision after I review her jacket."

"Thank you, sir." He took the two PADDs from her. "And speaking
of Engineering...."

"Yes." Bell picked up her cup and leaned back in her chair.
"Mister Gann has been informed by his homeworld that the Trill
Symbiosis Council needs to review his symbiosis records. He has
several weeks to report -- however, he has expressed to me his
desire to deal with the situation as quickly as possible."

"Understandable." He paused. "How long will this review be?"

"Too long for us to be without a Chief Engineer." She sipped her
coffee, put the cup down on her desk. "I've contacted BUPERS for
a CEO. As soon as they assign one to us, we can arrange for
Mister Gann's departure."

"Yes, sir."

"One more thing.... When will I see the Counselor's FITREP for
Lieutenant Murray?"

"She promised it before 1600 hours today. If you like, sir, I can
have my recommendations ready for your review by 1800 hours."

"Good. Report here at 1800. Anything else, Commander?"

"No, sir. I don't believe so. We are still scheduled to arrive
in system in five days and..." he loooked at his time piece, "six
hours."

"Good. Keep me posted. Dismissed."

MD 08.1555
Scene: XO's Office, Deck 2

Tap, tap, tap, tap. Tap, tap, tap, tap.

The light pen in Brennan's hand hit the desk repeatedly. The
Counselor had said she would have the report in by 1600 hours. He
looked at the time piece again when the door chime rang. His
eyebrows rose as he called out --

"Come in!"

The doors slid open and Stavay Tats-Marush gracefully glided into
the office. She approached his desk and came to a stop,
presenting a PADD.

"Lieutenant Murray's FITREP, Commander. The Captain has also
received a copy."

"Thank you, Counselor." Brennan accepted the proffered PADD, then
waved her to the seat across the desk. Tats-Marush sat down as
the Commander placed the PADD on the desk and stood, walking
toward the replicator.

"Anything to drink, Counselor?"

"A cup of raktajino would be nice, sir."

He nodded, and punched up a cup of raktajino for her and a cup of
hot chamomile tea for himself. He handed the Counselor her cup
and sat down at his desk. He sipped at bit of the tea, then,
putting the cup down on the desk, picked up the PADD and started
reading. A few moments later, he was looking up at the Counselor
again.

"I will be meeting with the Captain in about two hours to discuss
the subject. Have you any additional concerns that may not
necessarily be addressed in the report?"

Respectfully Submitted,

Takako Nagumo,
CDR Daniel J. Brennan
XO, USS CHESAPEAKE (NCC-31813)
Task Force Bravo, Green Fleet

NRPG:

Good writing, everybody. :)

I think we're all antsy to arrive. :) Please post for the
remainder of the journey (whatever you want/need to do) by
20 June (Friday). Then we can finally get there. <G>

Melvin: You can consider Sereh moved to Science as of 8.0830.
Will be sending you a separate NRPG re your other idea.

Masako: Consider Murray back on duty MD 9, Alpha Shift. Which may
be why Fielding is writing that DC report, instead of her. :)

Fabian: Oz certainly has a way with people, doesn't he? At least,
the way he meets them. <G> Please plan on posting our arrival in
the system latter part of next week -- MD-wise, that's about
13.1400.

Lynn, Naomi: Let's have them meet around 9.1600, or thereabouts.
NRPG follows under separate cover.

James: Nudge. <G>

Chris: I'm still working on the horsey ride. :) (hums the Lone
Ranger theme)

Amy: Ping. :)
