Subject: USS CHESAPEAKE: Settling in the CEO

SD 90720.2244 (EDT)
MD 11.0900
Scene: Tarell's quarters

Tarell had hurried to get his quarters assignment from Ops. After
introducing himself to
LCDR th'Thellan and receiving his assignment on deck 6, the next obvious
step was to
get settled in. It was a simple matter to arrange his few belongings in
his
quarters and to install his personal uniform program into the
replicator, since most of
his past was inside his head instead of in personal momentos. The only
truly important
things that Tarell had to secure where his worn leather bound Bible and
a collection of
letters from his mother and Deidre. He intended to hang both a Scottish
Broadsword
and a bat'leth in the room later, but as he hadn't thought that Star
Fleet would
appreciate him carrying those through the halls of the Star Bases he had
travelled
through, he would have to have those replicated later. After seeing
everything in
place, Tarell decided that the next order of business was to visit Main
Engineering and
get himself acquainted. He still didn't understand why a WO2 was in
charge, but
there was no better way that he knew of than to go ask.

Scene: Main Engineering

Tarell walked quietly into Main Engineering, hoping to get an idea of
the work habits of
his staff without them being aware of his presence. He was able to get
a quick glimpse
of engineers hurrying about the tasks which keep a starship alive before
one of the
engineers spotted him. The engineer turned and called to a group of
engineers
huddled around one of the computer consoles. "Chief Vrenois, he is
here!"

Turning to Tarell, the young man smiled and said, "Welcome aboard sir.
Hope you last
longer than our last chief did." Tarell smiled at the man while
wondering exactly what
had happened to end the last chief's stay. He had little time to ponder
that however,
as a fiery woman wearing WO2 rank quickly took him in tow. Tarell was a
bit
amused at being pulled towards a computer console by a woman he must
have
outweighed by nearly 70kg.

"Welcome aboard sir," the Chief Vrenois was saying. "I am Natalie
Vrenois, senior
warrant officer in Engineering. Commander Brennan told me you were
coming, so we
have been preparing a report for you. It is just finishing up now."

"Thank you Chief. I assume that everything is working?"

"So far, but this is your first day." Tarell could tell that Chief
Natalie Vrenois was
not afraid of rank, and he was glad to see that. He needed a solid ally
to help him
get used to this command. "Well then Chief, I guess it will be your job
to make sure
that everything still works after the day is through, eh?"

Chief Vrenois smiled in response. "Yes sir!", she replied, and led
Tarell to the computer
console where his status report waited.

"As you can see sir, all of the engines and computer systems are working
at nearly
100% of their design parameters. We have been having a little trouble
with one of
the impulse engines stability flux, however we think we have a line on
repairing that.
Other than that, everything is prepared for action."

"Very good Chief. I would like a report on that problem with the fusion
engine, and also
I would like a complete roster of our staff along with a duty schedule.
I will take a look
at this report and those rosters now unless you have something else you
need to
show me."

"No sir. I will be available in case you have any questions, and I will
have the roster to
you in ten minutes. Anything else?"

"One other thing Chief. I want a meeting of all of the crew set for
1300 hours today.
Those who are on the gamma shift can be excused. I will see them
personally this
evening. The staff needs to know who I am and what I expect. So do
you, Chief,
and you also need to know that I DO expect you to let me know if I am
doing
something that might not be right. Noone is perfect, and I can make a
mistake. Your
job is to let me know if you think I am making it. Oh, before I forget,
can you
get me a copy of the official logs regarding your last CEO? Nothing
personal, just
the reasons for his leaving and such."

"Right away sir, and once again, welcome aboard."

Tarell sat down to begin reviewing the report in front of him. If the
current condition of
the ship was any indication, the engineering staff of the CHESAPEAKE was
a good
one. He hoped that he would be able to make it even better. Only time
would tell.

NRPG: Well, I have officially taken over Engineering. I will be
sending out another
post later which should include some NPC's. (That is a cue for you Lynn
to stay tuned.
:) )

If noone has any objection, I will write one more back-dated post about
my
meeting and put out the NPC roster, than we will jump back up to the
current
MD. Unless I hear otherwise of course. :)

Talk to you all soon,

Jim
