Scene: USS CHESAPEAKE: Sickbay: CMO'S Office
--------------------------------------------

Lieutenant Commander Catherine Ledoux extended one hand to turn off her
viewer. Picking up the glass of orange juice that sat next to the viewer,
Catherine took a sip of the refreshing beverage. Reaching back with the
other hand, she massaged her sore neck. It had already been a long day.

First of all, there had been Captain Bell's examination. Catherine had not
been prepared for her Commanding Officer's sudden appearance in Sickbay,
nor had she been prepared for what she had found. Informing a superior
officer that it was in their best interest to leave the ship was not an
everyday occurance; Catherine hoped she would never have to do so again.

Now Commander Brennan was the CHESAPEAKE's Commanding Officer, a position
that he certainly deserved. Certainly, Catherine found it much easier to
relate to hte kind, friendly Commander. Captain Bell had been too cold,
too distant.

Tucking a loose curl behind one ear, Catherine wondered if she and Daniel
could still possibly be friends, now that he was in command. For instance,
would he have time for another riding lesson? Would they have the
opportunity to discuss Shakespeare again? The vet had never imagined doing
either of those activities with someone who was her Commanding Officer.

Shrugging, the CHESAPEAKE's Chief Medical Officer decided that only time
would tell. If she and Daniel could continue to become friends, so much
the better; Catherine certainly needed all the friends that she had. Shy
and reticent by nature, the vet always had a difficult time making new
friends, so the few that she had were treasured friendships.

Taking a sip of her orange juice, Catherine wondered when they would be
getting a new Executive Officer. Aboard the REGENT, when Commander
Sunbright to-Ennien had left, a new officer, Lieutenant Commander Canon had
transferred aboard; Rich had remained as Operations Manager. With any
luck, the same thing would happen aboard the CHESAPEAKE; the vet wasn't
sure she was ready to deal with a Rihannsu as a ship's Executive Officer.

Doctor Fielding, the latest addition to the CHESAPEAKE's medical staff,
seemed to be settling in nicely. Catherine was glad to have another
experienced physician aboard. Although she wasn't anticipating any
difficulties that would require sickbay's services, the CHESAPEAKE was
facilitating the negotiations between the Corellians and the ShipOres
miners. Anything could happen at the negotiation table.

The delegates had arrived aboard the CHESAPEAKE, and Catherine had brushed
up on her Corellian physiology, in case any of the delgates should need to
use the Sickbay facilities. All in all, they weren't *too* different from
Terrans, but there were some dissimilarities. Most notably they had
evolved to tolerate higher temperatures and lower oxygen levels than
Terrans. Catherine hoped that she would be able to effectively treat any
of the delegates should they require her services.

There were still several members of the senior staff who had failed to show
up for their complusory physical examinations. Taking a sip of her orange
juice, Catherine could easily excuse the new Chief Engineer, for he had
just arrived aboard. That still left a few officers unaccounted for:
Ensign O'Graeach, the Flight Control Officer, and First Lieutenant Shachor,
the Marine Commanding Officer. After discovering Captain Bell's problem,
Doctor Ledoux wasn't about to let *any* officer get out of their physical
exam.

Having finished her orange juice, Catherine rose from her chair with a
sigh. Gracefully walking towards the small replicator in her office, she
ordered another glass. Returning to her desk, the vet wondered if she
should continue working in her office, or return to her quarters.

Brushing a stray curl off her forehead, Catherine wondered if she'd ever be
able to write her medical board exams. It seemed as if she had been
studying forever. Of course, she knew it really hadn't been all that long,
but she did want to become a certified physician as soon as possible. Too
many people wondered what a veterinarian was doing as the Chief Medical
Officer aboard a starship.

With another sip of orange juice, Catherine called up the next lesson plan.
No time like the present to continue with one's studies.

Respectfully submitted,
