SD 90821. MD 14.2046 Scene: USS CHESAPEAKE: 10-Forward Lounge ---------------------------------------- >"Commander Ledoux, may I introduce Commander Miris, our new XO." The >two ladies shook hands. Elanna smiled up at the stunning Doctor, >some four inches taller than herself. Not for the first time, she >wished that her hair would grow to the same length as the Doctor's. >It had been a mistake to have it cut. Catherine returned the Commander's smile, trying hard to put her thoughts in order. The vet tended to bit a bit uncomfortable around Betazoids, due to some unpleasant experiences with Betazoid counsellors in the past. Forcefully, Catherine pushed those thoughts from her mind. Lieutenant Commander Miris was the ship's Executive Officer, not her counsellor. Mentally admonishing herself, the vet was not about to pass judgement on the Betazoid officer. In all likelihood she was a pleasant, friendly individual. A brief look of dismay crossed Catherine's face as Derek Fielding excused himself, but it was quickly replaced with a tremulous smile. Taking a sip of her drink, she turned back towards Commander Miris. >"I do hope I wasn't interrupting anything," Elanna began, sensing >the Doctor's uncertainty. She smiled, hoping to allow Ledoux to >relax. > >"No, not at all. It's nice to meet you." She paused, sipping at her >fruit juice. "What can I do for you?" Catherine, timid at the best of times, was trying hard not to make a fool of herself. After all, even though Betazoids would never invade another's mind, they *could* sense strong emotions. Accordingly, Catherine sought to keep hers under control. >Elanna took a mental deep breath. "Lieutenant Fielding mentioned >that Lieutenant Murray was unwell, and couldn't make it to the >reception." Her eyes searched those of Catherine. "I was wondering >if you could fill me in on the details." Elanna could not mistake the feelings of worry and concern for Anne that were emanating from Doctor Ledoux. Perhaps the two were friends? "Anne - that is Lieutenant Murray - well..." Catherine's voice, soft and low, trailed off, uncertain of exactly *what* she could or *should* tell the Commander. "You are friends?" Elanna asked, certain that they were, with the Doctor's use of Murray's first name. Nodding, Catherine took another sip of her juice. "Yes, we are," she said softly. Pausing, the vet took in a deep breath. "Anne's - I mean Lieutenant Murray's last billet was not exactly pleasant." Catherine could help but grimace as she thought of what had been done to Anne. "She... she's still recovering from the trauma she suffered there." Abruptly, she stopped, not knowing what to say next. Commander Miris would certainly have access to Anne's records, including her deposition regarding the counsellor aboard the BELLOPHORON, but somehow Catherine felt like she would be discussing Anne's problems behind her back if she told Commander Miris any more than she already had. "C'est vraiment dommage," the vet whispered to herself in French. Not wanting to pry, Elanna left it at that. "How are the rest of the crew? I've met some of them who seem a little on the strange side." Strange? Catherine wondered if she numbered among them. After all, how many ships had a CMO who was a vet? "I'm... I'm really not all that familiar with many of them, other than Dan- Commander Brennan," Catherine blushed, "and Anne..." Pausing, she took a sip of her drink. "The rest I've really only seen when they came in for their physicals." Of those, the vet would have to say that th'Tellan was the most strange, and Doctor DawnFire to-Ennien would certainly agree with her. Of course, Catherine could not discount her own behaviour her first few days aboard the CHESAPEAKE. Missing Rich terribly at that point, Catherine could now admit to herself that she had been depressed. Now, however, she realized how lucky she was to have someone as wonderful as Rich in her life, even if they could not be physically together right at that moment in their lives. "Speaking of physicals," Catherine continued, pulling her thoughts back into the present, and blushing slightly. "I'd appreciate it if you could stop by sickbay sometime..." She trailed off. After all, one didn't command one's superior officer to appear in sickbay for a physical examination. "How does tomorrow afternoon sound, Doctor?" "That would be fine," Catherine replied softly.
