Subject: USS CHESAPEAKE - Reception Woes

***NRPG*** - A mix of old and new, with the old provided by Fabian
and Melvin. Now if that doesn=92t cause you fear, consider an all out
joint post between the two of them.

***RPG***

"Oh, shure, I'd lurve to shee your planet.

"'ey, I'm the guy who flies shis big shingy here, shtarship, hick,=20
I'll be able to fly a little shingy, shuttle, whatever. Shust shquare it=
 wish=20
sche Big Bosh, an' A'll take a bunsh o' ush down t'morrow. Hick.", he
continued.

Livia shuddered slightly. This man was obviously sub-
common. And behaving like a degenerate. What was he doing here,=20
and why was she talking to him? She decided to go along with him,
since an angry drunk was a dangerous one.

"A tour will be set up for you to enjoy our beautiful capitol=20
and meet some Corellian Citizens.", she said. "I am certain you will=20
find Our citizens very kind and interesting."

Oz snorted, then wished he hadn't. It wasn't the disgusting=20
sound it made, rivalling that of an elephant with blocked sinuses=20
trumpeting, it was the pain.

	Livia winced slightly. Horrible.

"Y'know, yer worship, shome'ow I really doubt dat."
=09
"I've met yer folks before. Twice. Didn't like 'em. Nasty little
bastards, they were - ow !!! Shtop kicking me !"

"Did I step on your foot ? I'm sorry.", Clarissa said sweetly,
wondering whether she would manage to get her heel fixed. "Your
Highness, it is an honour and a pleasure to meet you." She curtsied,
then turned to Oz. "Oz, sweety, why don't you go and get us something
to eat. I am sure her Highness would like some of those delicious
little biscuits."

Relief! He was gone, replaced by a seemingly pleasant (thusfar)
woman. She was only slightly drunk. Still mostly in charge of her mind,
though her association with the helmsman cast some doubt on that.

Watching the FCO stagger off towards the table, Clarissa=20
smiled at the High Duchess. "Don't mind him, he's had a few bad=20
experiences with Corellians in the past. I am sure, though, that he will=20
find the tour - interesting. And so will the other officers that come." =20
She did not mention that she was not too sure that the Captain would=20
allow the tour, seeing that it might be considered favouritism.

"I=92m not entirely sure that such a tour will be possible, these=20
are busy days, however, I will see what I can do." Livia said somewhat
hesitantly.

"Perhaps it=92s for the best. I doubt he=92ll remember the=20
conversation anyway." Clarissa said with a conspiratal wink.

"So, how are the negotiations proceeding?"=85

Automatic pilot. Trained and conditioned in diplomacy, Livia
could answer the small talk questions politely, but without really paying
attention. She used the opportunity to relax her mind, taking refuge=20
from the confusion of the day.

	Relax.

Images of streams and forests from home streamed through her=20
mind, regressing her to a point just outside her forgotten childhood,=20
which was forever buried by the necessities of her duties and life.

	Relax.

Sunning on the beach with her baby brother and her parents,=20
on a rare holiday. The sun putting her to sleep=85

	Rel-

	"'ere you go, yer majesty."

	No! He returns!

Why hadn=92t she fled when she had the chance? Why was she
still sitting down with an idiot and his consort?

On the other hand, his speech had improved somewhat, and he
had formed one coherent sentence, even with the questionable=20
pronunciations. She would stay a minute longer.

"Why, thank you, Mr O'Graeach.", the High Duchess said. "By=20
the way, I noticed you had an interesting talk with -"

"-with what's-his-face ? Yeah.", Oz shrugged. "Damn lawyers. =20
Can't stand 'em. Always make my flesh creep. When I was on Oran 3=20
they had lawyers that had been alive for hundreds of years. Or rather,=20
they hadn't died, and their flesh was sort of rotting and falling apart, but
-"

What a beastly man. Enough was enough. Besides, her head=20
was beginning to throb.

"Oh, there is someone I have not yet talked to. It would be=20
very rude of me not to. If you excuse me, please.", Livia said hurriedly.

She was standing up rather quickly, and moving across the=20
room, searching for a safe haven.

"Excuse me Duchess, are you all right? You look rather=20
flushed." It was Stavay. Livia kept walking, until they had found a
semi-discrete corner of the room.

"Counsellor," she said slowly, making each word understood,
"you will *not* leave my side again for the duration of this reception.
Furthermore, you will tell the Captain that I seek an audience with him
tomorrow morning."

Stavay was taken aback somewhat. "Duchess, has their been=20
an incident I should be aware of?"

=91Well *obviously*=92 was the first thing she thought of saying,
but Tats-Marush had been very helpful and polite to her, so she=20
refrained. "Frankly, yes." She went on to describe O=92Greach=92s actions,
and the counsellor couldn=92t help but to bow her eyes in embarrassment

"I=92ll see to it the Captain is informed of the navigator=92s=20
indiscretion. I will also set up a meeting for you, if that is what you=20
want."

Livia nodded. "I think it is for the best."

"I see. Right this way then." She gestured towards the
Captain.

<Takako=92s post goes here>

<Then Livia and Stavay leave, and find th=92Tellan>

- Wait. Wasn=92t th=92Tellan with Brennan? You aren=92t very good at=20
coherent timelines are you Greg?

No, not really=85 who are you?

- Never mind that, it isn=92t important. Get on with it. Accuracy is=20
secondary, since you have to get this post out before you go to sleep,
since you=92ll be away until Saturday, with that funeral and all.

Why did you mention that?

- You might get some sympathy. Just don=92t mess it up by mentioning
you didn=92t really know the guy very well.

Hey, I have to be there for my friends.

- Whatever, get on with it.

Hey, isn=92t this Melvin=92s bit?

- Shut up, if you know what=92s good for you.

<Slight timeline edit - Melvin=92s post goes here>

"Mr. th'Tellan," Tats-Marush interrupted, and came over to=20
him. "May I present High Duchess Livia."

th'Tellan kissed her hand, and realized from the look on Marush's face that
this wasn't the smartest move that th'Tellan had done. =20
Nevertheless, Livia didn't show any emotion about it, so th'Tellan=20
decided to just leave it as it was. "Good Evening, Duchess. Lt Cmdr=20
Avikar th'Tellan at your service. I'm the OPS manager, second officer,=20
and Prince of Darkness. So, are you enjoying yourself?"

"Yes, quite," Livia responded. "So, commander, I understand=20
that you've been assigned to host the ShipOres delegation."

After years of introductions such as this, =91Prince of Darkness=92
somehow fell through the cracks of her mind.

	"That's right. Real nice bunch."

"Well, I'm glad you feel that way. I was worried that some of=20
the rumors.... Well, they're really not worth mentioning."

	"Then don't," th'Tellan replied. th'Tellan watched the Duchess'=20
poker face fall, then dropped the bomb. "So, I understand that there's=20
been a little problem with some rebels. Have you heard anything about=
 that?"

Livia winced. This man was obviously not trained in subtlety
and tact. Were all starfleet officers this rude? Or just the department
heads of this ship?

"Commander, I don=92t think that is appropriate conversation
for this event." Stavay said, noticing Livia=92s reaction.

	Th=92Tellan nodded.  "You=92re probably right.  I can probably=20
find some documented information from the Regency=92s database.

"Counsellor, I think I=92ll adjourn for the night." Livia said.
"I=92m very tired. Good evening, Commander."

Livia made her way towards the exit, with Stavay just behind
her. Before leaving, Tats-Marush turned to give th=92Tellan a bit of a
 scowl.

*NRPG* - I=92m playing a little loose with the timeline. =20
Technically Livia would have talked to Brennan and th=92Tellan=20
after th=92Tellan (solo), but after the one-two punch of Ozwald and=20
Avikar, I just couldn=92t see her being so polite and composed, especially=
=20
to th=92Tellan. Also, I=92m in a rush, and I=92m confused. Please take the
above post for its dramatic value, and let all the time-travelling slide.

Of course, everyone here is smart enough to realise that what Livia=20
thinks about a character and what I think about that character=92s
writer can be 2 different things. So I won=92t mention it.

- You just did.

James - I put myself in Stavay=92s position for her reaction at the end.
Hope it isn=92t out of character. If you care to post any post reception
conversation, Livia will be visibly distressed. She=92ll probably=20
attempt to disengage, since she=92s trained not to speak while angry.

Takako - See Brennan in the morning. <EG> I have a feeling she=92ll
make an exception to that angry/speech thing.
