SD MD 15.1330 Scene: USS CHESAPEAKE: Sickbay: CMO's Office -------------------------------------------- What have I done?!? What have I done... Those words echoed through Catherine's mind as she sank down in her office chair, feeling tired and worn. Cradling her head in her hands she was thankful, and not for the first time, that she had insisted upon opaque office walls. Privacy was certainly a blessing. What have I done? Catherine thought to herself again, nervously twining a loose curl around and around her index finger. I never expected this to happen! When she had relieved Anne of duty for medical reasons, Catherine had never dreamed that her friend would be leaving the CHESAPEAKE. Somehow, she had thought that Anne would remain aboard the ship, getting the rest that she needed, seeing the counsellor, seeing Catherine for medication, and somehow everything would have worked out in the end. Boy, had she been wrong. Catherine was not one for swearing, but at that moment she felt like spewing some invective. How could she not have seen this coming? How could she have been so naive? The last thing she had wanted to do was damage her friendship with Anne... now, it wasn't simply being damaged, it was ending! Anne was leaving, and Catherine's best friend aboard the CHESAPEAKE was leaving... her only friend, unless Commander Brennan could be counted as one of her friends. Abruptly, Catherine rose from her desk and began pacing back and forth in her office. Anne was leaving. At the very least, she would have to say good-bye, and wish her all the best. Why am I always parted from the people I care for? Catherine couldn't help but wonder. A moment later she realized that the nature of her job entailed such partings. Few Starfleet officers remained aboard the same ship or station for their entire careers. For most people, making new friends wasn't a problem. For someone as shy as Catherine, it sometimes seemed darn near impossible. Catherine's friendships were all the more precious to her, since they were few and far between. She *did* tend to have close friendships, however, so quality definitely made up for quantity. Truthfully, Catherine would rather have one very close friend than a dozen social relations. Anne's departure didn't necessarily mean the end of their frienship, Catherine reminded herself. They could stay in touch, although the vet wasn't sure that Anne would *want* to stay in touch; after all, Catherine *had* relieved the Science Officer of duty, thus necessitating her departure from the CHESAPEAKE. Would Anne want to stay in touch, would she want to be reminded to her days aboard the CHESAPEAKE. Shaking her head, Catherine wasn't sure, but the only way to find out would be to find Anne and say her good-byes. *** *** *** Scene: USS CHESAPEAKE: Sickbay ------------------------------ Doctor DawnFire to-Ennien's fur was bristling. *Why* did people refuse to treat her with the respect she deserved. Was it her size? The fact that she looked like a Terran cat that walked on two feet instead of four? What *was* it? It was *too* much when she heard people whispering: "oh, but isn't she the cutest!" and "oh, she is *so* adorable!" the worst being, "I wonder if I can pet her?" *That* made DawnFire's hairs stand on end! Imagine, someone wanting to pet her! Of course, with her sensitive Sivaoan sense of hearing, she could hear these soft-spoken whispers, even when those who spoke the words were certain that the cat could not possibly be listening. Those same ears pricked upright as the sound of the CMO's office door opening reached the Sivaoan. Out of the corner of her eye, DawnFire observed the Chief Medical Officer, who appeared to be heading straight toward her. "Doctor DawnFire to-Ennien?" Doctor Ledoux didn't even pause as she walked past the Sivaoan. "You're in charge of Sickbay while I'm gone." And with that, the CHESAPEAKE's Chief Medical Officer departed. DawnFire's golden tail continued its violent twitching back and forth. Respectfully submitted, Christine Fontaine LCDR Catherine Ledoux, DVM Chief Medical Officer USS CHESAPEAKE cfontaine@nac.net << NRPG >> Far from my best, but I wanted to get something out... My next post (taking care of the away team stuff) will hopefully be of better quality and quantity. Masako: This should lead into our joint post for Catherine and Anne saying goodbye. Let me know when you're settled into school and we'll start in on it. All: I'll get a post out with Catherine on the away team sometime soon... There's just no way Catherine was going to let Anne leave without saying goodbye - so I hope we can fit their goodbyes into the timeline, and if we can't well, we'll change things so that they *can* say thier goodbyes (at least, I hope we'll change things...) --------------------------------------------------------- Christine Fontaine cfontaine@nac.net http://www.oocities.org/~cccats/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - RADM FireSong to-Vensre, MD ALBXO Armstrong Lunar Base CAPT Caylynn Mary Donne, MD CO USS NEBULA CAPT StarFire to-Ennien, MD En route from Sivao LCDR Catherine Ledoux, DVM CMO USS CHESAPEAKE --------------------------------------------------------- If I waited for perfection...
