(Name) Richard Mead
(Race) Human
(Age) 21
(Description)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Physical:
Height 5" 10', brown eyes, light-brown curly hair, medium build.
Mental:
Smart, quick-thinking, and humorous, with little temper, but I tend to be slightly socially reclusive and sometimes become depressed. I'm not usually very physically active.
Hobbies:
Holonovels (I've written a few), and low-gee mountain biking on the holo-deck (a peculiarity I picked up at the Acadamy). I also enjoy tinkering with just about any machine, and playing the violin (mostly Classical music).

(Background)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
My father (Charles Mead) was a high-ranking starfleet officer of British descent. He met my mother (Andrea Hunt) on Earth during shoreleave.
Andrea grew up on a farm/ranch in Wyoming. [Even though the Federation is advanced enough that farms are no longer a neccessary part of society (due to replicators), there are some, including Andrea, who enjoy farming as a hobby. Most people agree that farm-grown food tastes better than its replicated counterpart.] When she met Charles, she left the farm and lived on the starship with Richard. Here they had a son (me) and, 5 years later, a daughter. My sister's name is Corona.
During the Borg invasion of the Alpha Quadrant, Richard's ship was assigned to one of the task forces. Because of the danger, he convinced his wife to take me and Corona back to Earth where we could hopefully find safety. I never saw my father after that battle. We heard that he was one of the hunderds of casualties that was lost that day. My mother -- grief stricken -- returned to her families farm., I was saddened by my father's death (I was still young at the time), but I remembered how I had always looked up to him on the starship. Although it was difficult for my mother to accept, I knew that I wanted to be a starfleet officer, despite the risks. Farm life was boring, and my life felt empty. I needed something more. After much persuasion -- and much guilt at leaving Mom -- I finally convinced her to let me join.

(History)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although I began starfleet a year late, I passed the entry exam on the first try, and got superb grades during my first year, attracting the attention of my professors. Good grades except in P.E. that is. I finally took up mountain biking and barely passed the course.
As I took further courses, I found that I was good with equipment, computers, and other such devices, so I decided to major in engineering. The last two years of my training at the Acadamy were a hands-on training experience on board the USS Everett, where I was assigned as an assistant engineer. Some of the tasks that I performed were: running routine maitenance checks on backup systems, replacing worn-out power relays, fixing malfunctioning replicators and sonic showers, correcting a minor glitch in a holodeck subroutine, and assisting the cheif engineer with sensor recalibration. These are the only two years of starfleet experience that I had before I applied to the USS Cortez.
