The Flight Deck for September 2001, Issue 100
Greetings to the crew of the USS Halsey,
I had planned to do a complete newsletter this month but due to the
tragedies, I haven't the time. I've been working overtime at USAirways
as we, and the other airlines, struggle through this terrible situation.
Any airline person will tell you that, no matter whose plane it is, all
of us grieve when one goes down. Now to have four go down and used for
such evil, we're all just numb with pain and horror. There's no telling
when things will be back to normal in the air. Certainly not in hours
and probably not in days. On the homefront, our hearts and prayers go out
to Janet Dailey who works near the Pentagon and fortunately is safe and
sound. We thank God that she is ok and can only pray for the others who
are not. Sorry if this is disjointed but I am so tired and heartsick it's
hard to put words together. I encourage you to donate blood if you can,
and also give to the Red Cross's relief effort. If we had any money in
the treasury, I'd make a donation (weary grin!) Hmmm, I wonder if we
could get a mobile unit at the plane washing? For blood, that is. Maybe
Alice or Andy could check that out. Let's plan on taking up donations
(at least of money) at Grissom. Speaking of that, we will be having our
away mission this Saturday, Sept. 15th to wash our plane at Grissom AFB.
If you would like to carpool, please meet at the Marsh at Meridian and
146th St. in Carmel. We'll be leaving from there at 845am. I had thought
about canceling this, but upon reflection, I believe that one of the
things we can do is to not let the bad guys keep us down. Also, a week
from this Saturday, we'll be leaving on an away mission to the
Renaissance Fair in Ohio. Those of you wanting to carpool, please meet
at our house at 645am. We'll be hitting I-70 from here. I'd like to see
as many of you as can make it at both of these events. Well, I've got
to grab some sleep. Take care!
