Kaporin was born in 2332, to Janorin and Maporane Laemmle, merchants on the Tellerite homeworld.Being the youngest of nineteen children, he found it hard to not get attention from one of his brothers and sisters. Their ambitions were found in the family business.
Kaporin felt an urging towards the stars when he was eight Terran Years. His parents disagreed and he found that he was being forced into education at the Miracht Academy for Promising Tellarites. After leaving there at the age of 14 Terran Years. Kaporin decided to miss he coming of age celebrations, and enroll in the Tellarite Space Navy, as trainee Pilot. After four years in the navy where he rose through the Naval ranks as non-commissioned officer, he found he was meant for greater things.
At his 18th Birthday, he met his great uncle, a Starfleet Admiral, who saw great things for his great nephew, and sponsored his enrollment in Starfleet Academy. With his four years in the Tellarite Space navy, and his education he was placed in the senior class. Kaporin declined the offer made by the Academy, and requested to enroll as a trainee Helmsman.
At the Academy he found he was loner, since like most Tellarites, he was considered to be argumentative and brash. He had to try to change his nature in order to work as a team. He was assigned to a racial mixture of cadets for the starship simulators, when he was in first year, his only advanced course at the Academy. The crew were made up of an Andorian Tactical Officer, a Terran Engineer, A Trill Commander, Betazed Operations Officer, A Vulcan Science Officer, A Bolian Medical Officer, and Kaporin as Helm. The crew aced the simulations, except the Kobayoshi Maru.
Kaporin's only friends after that were Metha, the Bolian; Karinna, the Andorian; and Marcus Tribbins, the Terran Engineer. He stuck with them for the rest of the Academy, spending time on Vacations in New London, on Mars, Bolarus, and Andor.
After graduation, he was commended by the Tellarite Government, for being the only Tellarite, since Kaporin's uncle to graduate Starfleet and become first in his class. He was promoted to ensign and assigned with Metha, Karinna and Marcus to the USS Nautilus, a Miranda Class Starship, as Medical Officer, Tactical Officer, Duty Engineer and Helmsman.
A year later the foursome was divided, when Kaporin was assigned to USS Proxima, Nebula Class vessel, and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, junior grade. He was given the position of Senior Helmsman and saw mostly night shift duty, until he received news of his great uncles death in 2360.
He requested a leave of absence, but was persuaded by his Captain to move to the Antares Shipyards, where if he needed, Kaporin could return to Tellar with ease. He got a post as chief test pilot on the new space frame vessels coming out the shipyards. He visited home once, as returning hero. He was shunned by his family, and swore a oath never to return to Tellar again.
Upon his return to the Antares Shipyards he met up with a fellow Tellarite, Lamillia Jeodrel. She was non-starfleet engineer assigned to the Centaur Class project. Over three months, romance blossomed between the two and a joining on the cards until the Lamillia's death in a tragic accident. A space frame she was working on was struck by a another starship, causing a large amounts of deaths, mainly from the Antarians, but also from the Engineers.
To recover to the tragedy, Kaporin re-entered the Academy in 2360, and undertakes Starship Construction and meets Marcus Tribbins again. The two become inseparable, when Kaporin hears Karinna, the Andorian was killed in a Cardassian attack.
Both officers left the academy and were promoted to Lieutenant. They both went to work together on the Runabout Project at Antares Shipyards. After a year both officers got assigned to the Eridani-A shipyards. Kaporin, begins testing the Akira Space Frame prototypes, and Marcus Tribbins is reassigned to the Utopia Planitia Shipyards to work on the Intrepid Class Project. Kaporin, becomes a loner again, and works on many designs for shuttle craft. He career as a Helmsman and test pilot catches the eye of Starfleet Command and Captain Charlie Reynolds. Captain Reynolds, wanted a new Helmsman, and requests Kaporin to join his crew. Captain Reynolds and Kaporin develop a strong friendship, as Reynolds spent eight years as a child on Tellar with his Starfleet parents assigned to the Starbase there.
Kaporin decides on starting a collection of Alcohol, to further his understanding of his fellow Tellarites. He manages to gain a bottle Tholian Wine, but loses the bottle in a game of poker with Captain Reynolds, who bet the entire ship. Wolf 359, passed the Centaur by, with a series of patrols along the Tholian border.
Kaporin, hears through Captain Reynolds of a new post on an Akira Class Starship, known as the Maelstrom. Upon hearing this, he sent weeks sending requests to Starfleet Command to transfer to the Maelstrom. In 2367, his request was granted and assigned as Chief Helm Officer.
