Commanding Officer - The Commanding Officer (CO) is responsible for the safety of his/her crew, as well as the success of missions. The CO is held accountable for actions taken by the crew. The CO and XO collaborate to determine any promotions, although the CO has final say.
Executive Officer - The Executive Officer (XO) is responsible for ensuring that any orders given by the Commanding Officer are carried out. The Executive Officer can temporarily be made Commanding Officer in times of crisis. Also, the XO makes sure that stations are running at maximum efficiency.
Flight Control Department - The Flight Control Department is responsible for plotting courses, supervising piloting, correcting flight deviations, piloting the ship manually, and piloting fighters, shuttles, and runabouts. They are also responsible for the repair of fighters, shuttles, and runabouts. Members of the Flight control department report to the Chief Flight Control Officer first, then to the XO, and finally to the CO.
Communications Department - The Communications Department is responsible for monitoring all transmissions aboard ship or outside the ship. Communications officers are proficient in many languages. Members of the Communications Department report to the Chief Communications Officer, then the XO, and then the CO. Exceptions to this are priority communications marked specifically for a certain officer.
Strategic Operations Department - The Strategic Operations Department is responsible for coordinating battle strategy. They also keep the XO and CO informed of anything of military or political that is relevant. The Strategic Operations Department works closely with tactical, especially during battle. Members of the Strategic Operations Department report to the Chief Strategic Operations Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
Intelligence Department - The Intelligence Department is responsible for gathering intelligence. This could involve preliminary intelligence reports before a mission or gathering intel during a mission. Intelligence Officers generally have many various contacts to gather information from. Members of the Intelligence Department report to the Chief Intelligence Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
Operations Department - The Operations Department is responsible for making sure the ship functions properly. This could involve ensuring that the various ship functions do not interfere with each other, or prioritizing resource allotments so that the most important ones have a greater chance of success. Also, certain functions can be put on hold if they willl interfere with the mission or other vital functions. Members of the Operations Department report to the Chief Operations Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
Security/Tactical Department - The Security/Tactical Department has security and tactical responsibilities on the ship. In regards to security, the safety of the ship and crew is ensured. They are responsible for those under arrest, as well as guests. Also, they protect the CO/XO on away missions. For tactical purposes, the department is the ship's gunman. They are responsible for advising the CO tactically in combat matters, and for the ship's weapons systems. Also, they maintain weapons systems, maintain/reload photons magazines, and coordinate tactical planning with the Intelligence Department. Members of the Security/Tactical Department report to the Chief Security/Tactical Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
Engineering Department - The Engineering Department is responsible for all systems and equipment on the ship. They oversee maintenance, upgrades, and repairs of all equipment. Also, they are responsible for all repairs during crisis situations. Members of the Engineering Department report to the Chief Engineering Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
Science Department - The Science Department is responsible for all scientific data collected by the ship and also for distributing said data to the correct section in the department for analysis. They also provide the CO with scientific information necessary for command decisions. Members of the Science Department report to the Chief Science Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
Medical Department - The Medical Department is responsible for the physical health of the entire crew. They give regular check-ups to monitor health and conditioning to help prevent crew members from getting sick or injured. If deemed necessary, the Chief Medical Officer can remove anyone from duty. Also, they are to provide medical advice to anyone who requests it. Members of the Medical Department report to the Chief Medical Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
Counseling Department - The Counseling Department is responsible for the mental health of the entire crew. Usually they are trained in psychiatry, and are therefore closely related to the medical department. They must advice the CO in dealing with other people and/or races, and also help crew with personal, psychological, and emotional problems. Members of the Counseling Department report to the Chief Counseling Officer, then the XO, and then the CO.
