HISTORY: Following his decree of Martial Law, and the subsequent refusal by the Martian Colonies to follow said decree, President Clark ordered the bombing of Civilian targets on the Martian Colonies. Upon learning of this, in protest, the colonies of Orion 7, Proxima 3, and Babylon 5 broke away from the Earth Alliance. In the ensuing battle between Babylon 5, and another resistance ship, they were forced to fire on their own brothers as they defend the quarter million humans & aliens inside B5. As the EAS Roanoke turned, to bring her main guns to bear on the station, the captain of the EAS Churchill, which had already taken fatal damage, overburned her engines to ram the Roanoke before she could power up her main forward offensive lasers. Following the battle (which didn't end there) Sheridan realized that as long as the Battle to retake Earth was active, he could no longer feel justified wearing the uniform of the Earth Alliance/EarthForce. Quote: "May I have your attention please... in the last few hours we have learned that warships are coming this way from Earth. Their orders are to sieze command of Babylon 5 by force. As commanding offficer and military govenor of Babylon 5, I can not allow this to happen. President Clark has violated the Earth Alliance Constitution, by disolving the Senate; declaring Martial Law; and personally ordering the bombing of civilian targets on the Mars colony. He is personally responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. Following these attacks, Orion 7 and Proxima 3 have broken away from the Earth Alliance and declared independance. Babylon 5 now stands with them. As of this moment, Babylon 5 is susceeding from the Earth Alliance. We will remain an independant state until President Clark is removed from office. Following this current crisis, anyone who wishes to leave for Earth is free to do so. However, for your own safety, I urge everyone to remain in your quarters until this is over. That is all." - Captain John Sheridan, Babylon 5. | |
