[[ Starfleet Assembly Hall ]]

Na’kaar Jadaya fought the fidgeting once more… it was a near losing battle as her nerves strung themselves like a finely tuned violin.  She glanced again at the Captain, but her face remained as serene as a glassy, windless lake.

Na’kaar straightened herself to full height, and with a lift of her chin… began to survey the Hall again.  Her gaze of blue passed over the USS Scorpius table.  She gave a small barely perceptible nod to Mason who bore the expression of a ‘king’s taste tester who was dreading the next bite.’

The crowd seemed to be growing ever restless.  What the heck was going on?  She stole another glance at the “Eye Candy” who had given her the rude ‘once-over’.  He was no longer flirting outrageously with the female companion beside him, nor with anyone else in sight.  He too now wore an agitated look as he unconscientiously white knuckled his goblet of Marillion wine.  And he was a ‘leg jiggler’ apparently, because his knee was set to the tempo of a jackhammer.

She relaxed her jaw line, not realizing until that moment that it had been clenched.  They ached now and a dull thud behind one eye was beginning to keep tempo with the “leg jiggler’s” rhythm.  If it got any worse, she would seek out the Doctor’s attention after the Awards Ceremony and ask for a quick hypo.  She had no doubt that the Doctor would be prepared for any medical emergency.  Not that a headache warranted the title of “medical emergency”, but because she was prone to migraines that often produced nausea.  No, it wouldn’t do to puke all over the Admiral’s shoes today.  She mentally grimaced at the picture that conjured up in her minds eye, and then quickly dispelled the vision, pushing it away with distaste.

Na’kaar glanced over the rest of the table.  Rei’Sha had the cool look of a Klingon, but the narrow glint within her eyes gave her away.  She seemed extra alert at the moment.

Cronin too was apparently feeling the wave of growing anxiety.  Na’kaar could almost see the wheels turning in his head.

Now Daro was another matter.  She watched as Mason and Daro seemed to have an exchange on a Betazoid level as she noted the long eye contact between the two.  His gaze had swung from Mason, to the Captain, and back again.  Daro then closed his eyes for a moment as if listening, and when they opened again, it was to meet Mason’s once more.

The thought passed through Na’kaar, and not for the first time, that there were an unusually large amount of Dignitaries present.  She was on the verge of unobtrusively mentioning her observations to the Captain.  She was beginning to have her doubts about the over all feeling she was getting.  She sighed as she made her mind up.
