The Armoury

Although not equipped to undertake planentary invasions, the USS Warspite has a sizeable armoury for it's security teams and Marine Squads. The make up of the Armoury is intended to allow the troops aboard the Warspite to respond to any military situation they may find themselves in.

The bulk of the weapons in the Armoury with are of the Phaser type. Phaser weapons work by directing phaser energy towards a target, where the severeity of the effect is determined by the strength of the beam. Phaser energy is released by the rapid nadion effect - nadions being short lived sub atomic particles which can liberate strong molecular forces when channelled through fushigi-no-umi crystals.

The effects of phaser beams vary. Between settings 1 and 3 on a hand phaser their only effect is to stun the target through concersted nervous shock fom electromagnetic and thermal effects. At higher energy levels the thermal effects begin to damage the target. At level 6, the resultant phaser beam is almost certainly adequate to kill an average humanoid lifeform. At level 8, to vapourise it completely. Phaser settings greater than level 10 cause damage over an increasingly wide area - or alternatively can be focused to do concerted damage to a smaller area so as, for example, to bore through dense armour plate. The selection of the appropriate phaser level to use is essetial so as to conserve the life of the power pack.


Type 1 Phaser

A small hand phaser unit. Operates between settings 1 and 8, sufficient to vapourise an enemy of about human proportions. Standard issue to all Star Fleet personel, the Type 1 phaser is most useful in self defense, especialy with regard to it's stun function.



Type 2 Phaser

A larger hand pistol unit. Type 2 phasers opeterate between settings 1 and 16 - enough to destroy some 3,900 metric tons of rock per 0.3 second discharge. Type 2 phasers are standard issue to boarding parties and away teams in hostile environments.



Type 3 Heavy Phaser Rifle

The Type 3 Heavy Phaser Rifle is usually only issued to Marines and away teams in the most hostile of environments. It operates between settings 1 and 18 and can fire in either beams or pulses. Isolinear computer beam management system allows for a fine degree of control over the energy discharge - a matter of ome significance when facing the Borg. The Rifle is also fitted with an advanced gyrostabilised targeting sight system.



Type3 Heavy PhaserRifle Mk 2

The Heavy Phaser Rifle Mk 2 is functionally identical to the Mk 1, but lacks the duranium alloy casing fitted to the original, a feature subsequently felt to be uneccessary - although favoured by troops in the field. The Warspite's armoury is equipped with both types.



The Photon Grenade

Using similar principles to the far larger Photon torpedoes, photon greandes are small, area effect photonic explosives. They come in a variety of sizes and can be projected from some form of gun, transported into place or - in the case of smaller devices - thrown by hand. The standard issue Star Fleet photon grenade has 20 differnet settings - the lowest used for small area stun effects, the highest for large area damage.

The TR-116 is a Federation weapon designed for use within dampening fields or radiogenic environments where phaser type weapons are rendered non-functional. Based on traditional gun making techniques, the TR-116 is a fine weapon by it's own standards, but compares poorly with phaser weapons. Since the development of Regenerative Phasers which can operate in the same conditions, the TR-116 has become obsolete, however the design pattern is maintained in the most ship's databases in the event that this ultra reliable weapon be needed again. Range is approximately 1000m and the largest magazine contains forty rounds.
