Comments:

Prior to USS Warspite joining Taskforce 42, the Taiho represented the bulk of the units firepower. She is also one of the newer ships in the group.

The Akira class is optimised for military actions and as such carries a large number of pulse fire torpedo tubes. These fire four torpedoes in quick succession rather than the simultaneous fire of a burst fire system. They also feature a fly-though shuttle deck in the saucer section and can handle very large numbers of shuttle craft. The Taiho is equipped with thirty sixType 17 Scout craft and a dozen Danube class runabouts which she is able to replicate as neccessary. The Akira class are also noted for their agility, enabling then to effectively support the actions of their attack craft in reasonably close combat.

These combined abilities make the Taiho one of the most valuble ships in the taskforce, an especially important consideration bearing in mind that compared to the Warspite and Tannhauser she is a distinctly fragile ship.
