BIBLE MEMORY TIPS

From a newsletter reader -

For a quick game to help with 'learning by heart' you can copy a scripture passage onto paper, then cut it into "blocks" with a few words on each block (more words on each for younger, fewer for older).

The child then has to reassemble the verse - and you can make it a fun timing game. When they have mastered that, you cut the blocks apart - fewer words per block and do the game again.

When that is mastered, you have one word per block (just keep whittling away until you get there) and keep playing the game.

For my older ones (11, 12 and 14) we even cut some of the words in half and build it that way. It is a fun way to get those scriptures into their hearts.

Another fun game - get out a Twister floor mat and write the words to the passage on heavy paper (like card weight paper) then tape with masking tape to the mat.

Have someone call out the words, in order and the other players have to put their hands and feet on the words IN ORDER. If "the" is used more than once, it would only be one space on the mat and an extra hand/foot would have to be put on that spot! The kids LOVE this game (and so does Daddy). We even have non-believing neighbor kids that love to come and play it (with their parent's permission - I don't do it without them knowing - I'd not like it if the JW neighbors 'taught' my children something and I respect the other neighbors rights to parent as they will. I can still pray and fast for them, though).

This can also be used for spelling practice or doing a chain of related events or facts. It is a great get them out of their seats activity for those blah days.

God's peace and may you forever serve Him faithfully, Jean
