1. Write spelling words in code. For example use 1 for A, 2 for B....
2. Put spelling words in a code and have the student decode the spelling words.
3. Write a letter to someone using as many of your words as you can. Underline the words.
4. Find the spelling words in a dictionary. Write the meaning.
5. Write the spelling words. Circle each consonant. Draw a square around each vowel.
6. Cartoons. Use spelling words as you write what the cartoon characters might say.
7. Write the spelling words on heavy paper. Cut it apart into a puzzle. Put it back together.
8. Cut out letters from the newspaper to make your spelling words. Or look for the whole word and cut it out.
9. Write a joke, riddle or tongue twister using your spelling words.
10. Tape record yourself saying your spelling words. Then listen to the tape and give yourself a practice test.
11. Put your words in ABC order.
12. Make spelling flash cards--one word on each card. Have teacher say them as you flash them and vice versa.
13. Form the words with clay.
14. Make a spelling chain by putting a word on each strip and making a chain.
15. Write a word on a card and draw a picture of it. Arrange the cards in ABC order and staple them to make a Pictionary.
16. Make a word hunt.
17. Write your spelling words. Circle the letters in each word that are in your name.
18. Write each spelling word with crayons. Use red for vowels and blue for consonants.
19. Make a concentration game by writing each of your words on two cards.
20. Type your spelling words on a computer or typewriter.
21. Write a sentence for each spelling word. Draw a blank where the spelling word belongs. Ask a friend to fill in the blanks. Make "bugs". Write each word then trace the outline of each word two times with two different colors to make bugs.
22. Play BINGO right before the final test as a last quick review. Make a blank form and write the spelling words on it. Write the spelling words on cards and shuffle them each time you play.
