My fellow workers,

Our brothers & sisters at Handy & Harmon Tube are currently engaged in contract negotiations. Handy & Harmon is one of several tube companies in Montgomery County, and if they break it could compromise the bargaining positions of other tube mills in our Local. As of yesterday morning the company was holding on language and hadn’t even begun to discuss economics. Their negotiating deadline is May 10th, so they still have a lot of work ahead of them. Everyone involved remains hopeful, but preparations are being made just in case.

Here’s something many of you may not be aware of, Handy & Harmon was one of several Units in our Local that had made preparations to support us with pickets, had it come to that point, last October. Knowing that it has the wider support of the Local is just the kind of thing that can buoy a negotiating team, as it did ours’ when we held together toward the end of our most recent negotiations. I only hope that, if needed, we can return that same offer of support to them.

If you’d like to join me and volunteer your support for the workers at Handy & Harmon, please see Sharon Miller, Jim Asher or me.

In solidarity,

John.
