September 15, 2000 My
fellow workers, I’d
like to thank everyone who attended our Union meeting this past Saturday. It
made for a long afternoon, but we had an excellent crowd - our largest since
the ratification! The meeting itself was a great example of how a Union is
supposed to work. Our membership came together to share opinions, discuss
important issues and decide as a Union the direction in which we should move.
I hope everyone came away more knowledgeable and with the feeling that this
Union really does belong to all of us. We’ve now had a consistently strong
turnout at several meetings. I only hope that we can continue this trend into
October. That meeting will be just as important as this last one. We’re
going to receive recommendations from the Committee for the Review of
Superseniority, and we’ll nominate and elect a new Negotiating Committee. I
look forward to seeing each of you there. I also want to
mention the questionnaires that Jim, Sharon and I have been distributing.
These are part of an ongoing effort to help us get a better feel for what
you’re thinking. Silly as it may seem, these things provide us with quite a
bit of information and eliminate a lot of guesswork. So please, complete and
return them as soon as you are able. In solidarity,
