A quick glance at our current seniority list finds the names of 56 employees.  More striking than the ever shrinking length of this list is what it reveals about our workforce – we have a population of aging employees with unusually high seniority.  These are particularly important factors when viewed in context of the next five years:

  • 37 of our employees will have over 30 years of seniority

  • 25 of our employees will be eligible for Social Security

  • A total of 40 of our employees could potentially retire

Each of us works hard, not only for the wages and benefits we receive today, but also to provide for our future – one that hopefully includes a safe and secure retirement.  But how secure will that future be if our pension and retiree heath care coverage is compromised?  The facts cited above illustrate the importance these benefits.  They’re benefits we’ve all worked for and are all counting on.  They weren’t “given” to us, we’ve earned them and have every right to expect them to be there for us when we need them.  We cannot allow anyone to reduce them or take them away.
