the Utah Jazz & the 2002 Winter Olympics

BYU is the nation's largest church-owned university and home to more than 33,200 students.

BYU's 638-acre campus, nestled between the Wasatch Mountains and Utah Lake, enjoys a picturesque view of the surrounding area.

The Law School

Within a few short years of their arrival in the Salt Lake valley in 1847, the Mormon pioneers took the first steps toward establishing a university. The University of Deseret was created on February 28, 1850.

In 1892 the name of the University was changed to University of Utah, commonly called the U.

The U now encompasses 1,494 acres with an enrollment of 25,000 students.

The decade of the 1990s saw the University reach national standing in sports. The 1994 football season (the best in school history) saw Utah finish the season with a school-record 10 wins (10-2). The Utes also ranked nationally in volleyball and skiing. The women's gymnastics team continued their dominance and the men's basketball team provided the most thrilling highlights -- they advanced to the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" several times during the decade.

The U is now celebrating it's 150th anniversary.

The Utah Jazz began as the New Orleans Jazz in 1974. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1980.

The original Jazz lineup featured high-scoring Hall of Famer "Pistol Pete" Maravich. When the team moved to Utah it included amazing players such as guard John Stockton and Karl Malone.

Salt Lake City will host two prestigious events - the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The XIX Olympic Winter Games will take place from February 8 through 24, 2002.

The VIII Paralympic Games will be held from March 7 through 16, 2002.
