Logistics; What does it means:
The term logistics has its origins in the France military in the year of 1679 when French Army formed a position in the name of “Marechal General de logis” who was responsible for supply and transportation, for selecting camps and adjusting marches. From that perspective, it applies to the process of supplying a theater of war with troops, equipment and supplies.

We Utegi Technical Enterprises (T) Limited like other Logistics companies in the industry of logistics borrowed this term and have applied it to the discipline known as “Business Logistics.” Logistics categorize, what we do as our daily professional duties and as our employer "logis"

The Council of Logistics Management in United States of America has defined logistics as that part of the supply chain process that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective flow and storage of goods, services, and related information from the point of origin to the point of consumption in order to meet customers’ requirements.” A second, more concise definition offered by CLM is “the management of inventory, at rest or in motion.”

The Formula for Port Charges Computation

Before we tell or educate you on how to compute for the Port Charges in Tanzania, let Us define what is Storage, Warfage and Handling

Storage:

Storage is act of storing, deposit and keeping something or goods for a while; The storage charges in the Port of Dar es Salaam, now days operated by Tanzania International Container Terminal Services for containerized goods is charged in the basis of number of days goods stayed in the port Seven days after the arrival of the ship, now the formula is USD 1 X CBM X DAYS goods stayed in the port. Remember, storage computation for containerized goods formula is the same as that of motor vehicles, the difference is on the size of CBM. For example CBM for a coralla saloon car is 10. Now, the storage charges for let say 13 days after the arrival of ship is only 3 days. Now is Us $ 1 x 10 x 3. The storage payable for a Corolla Saloon Car is Us $30.

Warfage

PIER CHARGE / WARFAGE -This charge pays for maintenance & upkeep of the port property (which is usually owned by the Taxpayers or Port Authority of the surrounding metropolitan area). Warfage is charged on the basis of Cost value of goods Imported, Insurance paid (CARGO MARINE INSURANCE -The following risks are covered: theft, pilferage, damage, total loss, war, stranding,  jettison) plus the Freight paid; In short the CIF VALUE               Now the formula is  as follows:-       1.6% of CIF VALUE

Handling

Handling is Manual (or mechanical) carrying or moving or delivering or working with something, he action of touching with the hands (or the skilful use of the hands) or by the use of mechanical means. The formula to know the handling charges as:-
USD 4 X CBM
